Default Preparing for the season is hard work

I love my business and love to work on my boat. Here's a list of what I had to do this off season to prepare for the next;

Tune the engines.
Replaced port engine thermostate.
Replaced engine zincs.
Inspected and replaced water pump empellers.
Lubricated all joints and shafts.
Repacked rudder stuffing boxs.
Repacked shaft stuffing boxs.
Rebuild steering ram.
Repaired cracked fiberglass vents.
Repaired fiberglass deck cover.
Painted deck with a non skid.
Repaired dry rot (why is it called dry when it's wet?) on the port side of the cabin.
Replaced two broken windows (passengers are a rough lot).
Painted the cabin.
Scrubbed the hull.
Rebuilt the cabin interior, put in new seating and upholstery.
Rebuild rear door and jam of cabin.
Built and installed new lids for fish boxs.
Installed new holding tank.
Installed new water tank.
Installed new 5kw generator.
Rebuilt main bilge pumping system and installed second mechanical pump and bilge manifold system.
Replaced 7 life jackets and lights.
Replaced 6 flares.
Restocked first aid kit.
Repaired 23 fishing reels.
Repaired 14 fishing poles.
Repaired fire alarm system.
Inspected high water bilge alarm system and checked for operation.

And I'm sure I've missed something. If you are going to work or play on the sea, you MUST be willing to perform maintenance on your boat and equipment.

So many fail to maintain their ride and wind up being towed in, rescued or lost. Please take the time to prepare.

Hey Capt Mikey...

Isn't there one really important item you forgot to mention? The one that has to do with maintaining your other "love boat"? I think it's going to be a great year for you!!

That's quite a list you have there. Will I still recognize the boat?

We still need to hook up for lunch before the "winter" is over.

See Ya,

Capt Markey

I feel much better now! That is way more than I have/had to do! You are right of course, the up front work is important in preventing the later pain!

Hi Mike,

I spent all day Friday and Saturday getting Pacific Mistress ready to go
back in the water. A short list of my preperations included (but not limited
too):
Friday:
-------
New wheels so the engines would run up to RPM (1888 bucks plus shipping),
Engine zincs,
Outdrive zincs,
Touch up paint on bottom,
Saturday:
----------
New ropes for outriggers,
re-install outriggers,
move the boat from Curry Marine in Newport to Dopey Bay,
New house batteries,
Re-install mast
LAUNCH!

All of this after I had Ken McKay at Curry Marine do a realignment of the
outdrives and put in all new lower unit oil and seals.

While not as much work as you had to put into YOUR boat to get it ready for
the season, I can tell you right now, I hurt all over from all that unacostomed
physical labor!!

I think I may be ready to start a new season next weekend!!

Ahhhh Mike, that list is nothing. I did all that to my boat on the first day, then things really got tough!

Actually, I found out yesterday there are a few more items that need attention but I think they are only a minor setback and I should be fishing soon!
