Thanks to edsr
I want to thank edsr for taking the time to ride with me yesterday to shakedown my boat. We didnt make the run we were going to but I think it was a fair test anyway. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with me and especially pointing out all those honey holes Let me know when you are ready Ed and we will make the Chinook to Boniville run Did you get a chance to see just how far we went?
Thanks again, Dave

Re: Thanks to edsr
Woody and myself rode with Ed today from Chinook landing to Bonny. On the way up we had a nice 25 + mph head wind, 3 foot swells and white caps. Took 2 hours to go 27 miles to the dam. The ride home wasnt much over an hour as the wind died down and we were going with it rather than against it.
I think I have had better rides in the ocean than the ride upriver today.
Boat performed nicely. Ed figures he burned 18 gallons on a 54 mile round trip on the GPS trip calculator.

Re: Thanks to edsr
Hey Edsr, BOE, and Woody, sorry I couldn't make the run with you guys. I just put in a new heat exchanger and tried to use the old lid but the seal wasn't good enough so I kept spewing water at the high RPM's.
That was the easy fix! I just got home about 20 minutes ago! That flippin wheel bearing issue left us stranded in the Walmart parking lot all day. After numerous trips back and forth from the parts store( s ) with the wrong or incomplete parts we finally ran past the Napa 5pm closing time and were stuck! I was preparing to spend the night in the parking lot but after fiddling with the old wheel bearing "seal" I was able to make it work enough to get me back home.
I sure love being a boat owner. I don't know what I would do with all that spare time from not fixing crap on the boat.

Re: Thanks to edsr
Hey Dave,
Could you describe your boat and motor for us, also how much fuel did you use?
And Ed, what kind of boat and motor do you have? Looks like you averaged about 6gal. per hour, 3 miles per gal.
Thanks,
Steve

Red Tide,I have a 21ft North River Sea Hawk,5.7liter I/O prop.We put in at Scappose and went up Columbia River. Then Went up the Willamette to the Falls in Or City and back to Scappose. Not sure how far we went but Im sure it was easyer going than the ride to Boniville.

Re: Thanks to edsr
WRO - Just one drive-by that didnt stick :depressed: There was the bank carp that we hung up with at the lower end, on one of the last passes Who woulda thunk they would or could cast 1/2 way across the river.
I didnt know that was you with Bruce until Jeff called me later to yank my chain as usuall. If you wanna fish a couple hours one evening this next week after work let me know, I am gonna try to get out 2 or 3 times after work this next week..

Re: Thanks to edsr
Mr. Kitchen - If my calculations are correct we did about 70 miles. If you used 25 gal. of gas you are doing very well - that's almost 3mpg!
In heavy water the mileage would be reduced but over-all your boat really performs well.
Some additional shake-down runs will give you some more experience and time to find any bugs.

Re: Thanks to edsr
Ride Red - My boat is a dory 23+ feet with a 90 hp Honda. With BOE's help my gps shows the return trip at 27mi., we averaged 15.8mph,with an over-all average of 13mph and a max speed of 37.4mph. We were more lightly loaded than a tuna trip so the max speed would be less. Last year with about a ton of fish and gear we did 27 miles in a little over an hour, but the conditions were good.

Re: Thanks to edsr
Woody and BOE - good to have you two aboard for the ride. I pulled the wheel bearings on my trailer on Sun. and found that the races were rusted and some of the bearings were lightly rusted. I also moved the wheels 4" forward to reduce the tongue weight on the van. I hope to get new bearings this week. Where is a good place to get wheel bearings for a trailer? They didn't seem to be anything special.

Re: Thanks to edsr
edsr- suggest you contact Potter Webster 503-735-3315 for your bearing & brake part needs.
Had to rebuild my trailer brakes last fall. Pilar sent me there... saved alot of frustration as they know their stuff.
