Question Ballenger

Has anyone fished the first pond within the last couple of years? A buddy of mine is dying to go there today and I'm not too confident that we'll catch anything. We fished it last year pretty hard and only caught small ones all under ten inches.

Only fished for 3 hours. Threw some crank baits, plastic, and spinner baits with no bites. Had a few small ones follow the plastic and that's about it.

Is ballenger pond listed as kizer slough on google earth? I'm not familiar with it and was trying to figure out where it is.

That pond got hammered after that kid caught the state record. The bucket brigade was out in full force with nightcrawlers and nothing swam away. I've seen a lot of nice fish leave that place in a dry bucket. Unfortunately it doesn't take much to deplete a small pond like that. I wouldn't waste my time out there.

I just read on another forum that someone claimed to have caught a 4 pounder yesterday.

Actually yes it does. The back pond is private property which is too bad.

That really sucks. It's kind of depressing for me. They're going to end up closing it if people keep dumping their garbage there. Someone dumped a love seat, trash, and a pile of dead nutria there.

Did you ever fish the back pond when it was open? There's some monsters in that one.

I got back in there when it first opened and my first few trips were solid. Then everyone heard about it and it i'd see 6 to 7 boats/rafts/tubs back in there and the bite slowed. But yea sweet pond, my biggest was 6 on my first trip in, enjoyable

I too was lucky enough to get on that pond with OBT when it first opened a few years ago. It was early and tough but we saw some nice fish. The highlight of the day was when this old El Camino appreared and did some cookies in the parking lot. Things quickly got worse when about 6 dudes emerged from the vehicle with ugly sticks and crawler balls. They preceded to pepper that poor pond and harvest some real nice ones. Nothing like seeing about a 30 pound limit lying dry in the back of a 1976 Camino with a missing back window. I was so disturbed I fell out of the boat and almost drowned. I've never been back since. I'm not sure I've ever been the same.

I thought they were backfilling all those ponds and had posted no trespassing signs?
