I'm far from the expert on springers .. but I think you'll go broke feeding that 350 using it as a trolling motor. Most likely you'll have a hard time going slow enough as well. One last thing is to watch out for overheat when running at idle for long periods.

Do you have a trolling bracket and a kicker?

Nothing wrong with the anchor Salmon fishery. You'll be comfy in that big boat, for sure.

Are you a Salt water fisher?

I have been out on a friends boat a few times, i WENT TO THE CHICKEN RANCH with him but this is my first boat, it has accu nav and a lms- 350 gps system and all the raidios and what not. I would like to hit the salt for halibot and bottom fish, I think I have a lot to learn before I head to tuna unless I can team up with someone. My buddy sold his boat and moved to the east coast so I do not have the experiance. I was in the navy for 10 years but I was on subs so they tell me the water was blue but I only saw valves and pipes. I am a little puzzled as to how you can tell if the water will be ok to get out. I would hate to drive from troutdale to say newport to just have to haul it back. So any help in the big water arena would be a big help also? I have been reading on this board for about a month now and trying to learn as much as I can, to be honest I seem to be getting lost thanks for the help Rich

Rich-
Go back to the beginning and start reading from there.
It sounds like you need to "get to know" your boat a bit. Drowning a herring or two is a good way to get started, although I prefer a prawn spinner. Questions, questions, questions. Ask and you will receive!
You can look here for buoy reports

Look here for water predictions

Look here for tides

Look here for Tuna! water

BTW- You'd have a heck of a time getting that boat to troll slow enough. You might be alright going down stream with the tide/current on certain days. Add a kicker, you'll want one for your Big Blue trips!
