Hi, I haven't been on here for about four years.
My father and I used to have a boat about four years ago and would spend every weekend on the Columbia near St. Helens fishing. After more than $20,000 and countless hours in that boat, I brought home one fish.
When my wife got pregnant, it was a great excuse to get rid of the boat, and so we sold it and I haven’t been fishing since. I miss it.
Where I am going with this is that this week my dad turned 71 years old and I am starting to realize I might not have too many more years with him. He is in pretty good health for a diabetic old cuss, but I am looking into a couple of options for fishing trips.
My first inclination is to load him on a plane (he lives in Hillsboro and I live in Canby) and go to Alaska for a kick butt fishing trip we will both remember for the rest of our lives. Heck, I was even thinking of inviting my little brother from California. I have no idea what something like that would cost, but I wanted to know about what people recommend. I saw the listing on the home page, but it felt like picking one at random.
If the cost of that is too prohibitive, I have heard $2k each, which I don't think I could float... then who would you guys recommend to take us out, guide wise?
My dad is going to have some issues getting in and out of the boat, he has a bad knee. I am a bigger guy, so I think I could help him with that.
Anyway, any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!
