Default getting in to reloading for a 270 again

Going to start reloading for my 270 win again. I all ready have every thing I need to do with, press dies scale trimmer and brass and a Ohler Model 35 Proof Chronograph.

I was thing of going with the Barnes 130 tsx or the 140 tsx as this is my deer gun and I spend most of my time in central Oregon in the Bend area for deer. I use a 338 win for elk but I take the 270 as a backup. Was thinking of starting out with imr 4350 and reloader 19 to build a load with. Years ago I used h4831 for my first 270 (but I got a boatload of the powder free back then).

What I want to ask is has anyone tried these bullets and powder combo’s (not looking for loads as working them up is the real fun part). Just hope this is a good starting point. Don’t want to spend too much on different powders if they won’t give me what I am looking for.

The gun is a rem lh700 BDL that has been bedded and the barrel free floated. The barrel is 22” and has a Nikon 3x9 on top.

Looking for some were in the 3000fps with the 130 or maybe 2900 with the 140

Any input will be greatly appreciated

Also any if any one can suggest a place were I can test the loads and use the Chronograph in the Portland , Vancouver Oregon city area.

Thanks for taking the time to read this

Here's a good place to start, from the Barnes website:

Take a look at the 110gr barnes tsx while your at it. I promise you this bullet kills all out of proportion to its weight. Drive it around 3400fps with imr 4350 and you will do absolutely no tracking on any deer!

This is my same set up for the old 270. This combo seems to go together like vanilla ice cream and apple pie.

I use the Hornady and Speer 130gr offerings - these bonded bullets hold together nicely. No explosions like the unbonded bullets of old. I switched to Hodgdon's H4350 short-stick "extreme" powder - very consistent over temperature. WLR primers. Nothing special here - I run mine right at 3000fps measured over my Chrony - out of a 24" barrel.

I havent been able to get over 3000fps in my 22" barrel with 130 grain bullets, but real close with IMR4350, H4831SC, and H1000. Have't tried RE19 but plan to

Norm, need any brass. I have been saving mine for years and doubt I will ever be reloading any of it.

Let me know if you want them.
