Re: Nice project for someone!
Okay, so is anyone bidding on this? It would be a terrible shame to bid against eachother!
Also, there's no trailer? How can we get this back here?

Re: Nice project for someone!
Motors are easy, 350 chevy is the easiest. What about the rest of it? Does anyone have a trailer and a semi I can borrow for a couple of weeks?
MarkMc, what do you think?

Re: Nice project for someone!
Keta- this looks like the deal you've been looking for. Just get a couple paddles and bring her through the canal!
I know somebody who has the trailer that can haul her (truck too) but I doubt he's up for a trip to Florida. You never know about this guy though- might be just the adventure he was looking for.
The ad's a little miss leading on the 10 feet/no permit isn't it? Maybe no dedicated lead car but I'm sure you need a permit.
What do you suppose a commy hauler would charge? 7,000...10,0000...????
OH- Looks a little like Miss B in that the cockpit is relatively small and the cabin relatively large (for fishing and fish space). There's no good shot of the cockpit in the photos though.

Hey Tom:
I thought that any boat older than about 5 years was a project, isn't that why there called holes in the water that money runs through....Roger

Re: Nice project for someone!
Crazy thought but...
If 5 of us ponied up 2k and invested in the hull, then came up with a plan to rebuild her...
Of course we would give a share to Keta in return for his invaluable assistance restoring, carking, and otherwise being a pretty decent human being  , but 6 people in partnership together on a magnificent tuna assault vessel doesn't sound impossible to manage, does it?
I would think that she could be a real beauty for maybe 4k apiece? Twins like her are fuel hogs, so it would really help to have partners...
Any biters??

Looks like a drug runner that was forgotten in a Police impound yard on the wrong side of the tracks in Miami. Or a hurricane salvage.
I'd forged aboud'it if I were you guys.

Re: Nice project for someone!
Well I kinda get the feeling Kamloops doesnt like the idea, but if I didnt have the boat I am working on I would be all over it, Thompsons are built very strong, and I think this would be one heck of a beat! I am not interested in buying into it as the 25 footer will be on the water in the next 2 weeks, but I would go with someone and help drive it home! I know its about $1.00/mile to ship so thats about 3200 bucks. There are alot of trailers for sale out there and I think one for under 1500 could be had, and then we just rent a truck and drive it back.
Just my random thoughts!

Re: Nice project for someone!
Sturgn
Don't get me wrong, Thompson was once a very famous producer of quality lapstrake wood boats.
I don't know much about them once they started on plastic boats. Like most wood boat mfgs, what is now left of the old companies after several owners
is nowhere near what made them famous.
There is several good articles on Thompson Boat works that I have read in the last several years.
If you are truley interested I am sure I could find them and get them to someone. Classic Boating
magazine (ACBS'S Bible)had a real nice article in one of last years editions.
Good Luck on your adventures, but before I would even think about buying something like that you should really hop on a plane and check it out.
Like I said, It's kind of like buying a classic car, you can sink a ton of money in it and never hope to recoup your mistake. Or you could get lucky, but be CAREFUL.

Here is a link to a Thompson that has a sale pending. Also, a little better picture.

Re: Nice project for someone!
It's been my experience on both wood and plastic boats that use the word (fixer upper) or (project), unless he pays you to take the boat off his hands, run don't walk, as fast as you can to get as far away as possible in the shortest amount of time.
I have completely restored a 17' 62 Century Resorter and a 1984 22' Harvey Dory. I'm out of the boat restoration buisn. till I retire.
