Have you cought A fin clip fish on the umatilla this year. I am 4 for 4 natives. The river is clear and the fishing is good. What is your favorite bait?? jigs, eggs, pinkworms, plugs, shrimp,
Last week, 4 of 6 were hatchery, but have been told average is more like 20%. Buddy thought my jigs just appealed to the dumb hatchery fish. Fish almost exclusively jigs. Havn't fished Umatilla this week, buddy has caught 8, all wild.
Im one for 2, landed a nice native last night, and caught a very small keeper that I turned back a few weeks ago. Im hearing of alot of natives as well
I think we landed about 15 last year of which only 1 was a hatchery fish. If you look at the total numbers that cross 3MD at least half of the fish are typically clipped but for some reason they are more difficult to catch. I think about 40% of the adults arriving at 3MD this year are hatchery clipped.
You guys still getting fish out there? I've got to be in Pendleton next week and was thinking of bringing the jig rod. Any wisdom would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I was fishing jigs on a friends property a couple of weeks ago. Saturday, I missed one fish and fished from sun up until about 1:00 or so... Very slow... Sunday was a different story. I landed two fish, lost one, and missed 3 bobber downs and wasn't on the river until 10:30! Of the two I landed one was a hatchery buck and the other was a native buck, both of them right around 6lbs. maybe.
Ive only caught one on jigs this year, but ive also only caught 3 total this year. The other two were on roe. Fished the same hole for about an hour last saturday, everyone using jigs. I threw on some roe and caught a 28 inch native on the third cast. I would say try corkie and yarn, or roe. Ive heard of alot of fish being caught of of those two this year.
fished on saturday water was clear whacked 3 fish in one hole all nates. one of them was 12lbs nice to see a B run fish. Brushape thanks for your help..finally got dialed in!!
are you guys fishing closer to pendleton or hermiston? Reith or Echo? ill understand if its a secret. dont really feel like doing the china man if you know what i mean.

The cliffs has been getting hit hard I am sure, see a truck there most times I am out. But these fish can be anywhere..... hear egs have been working as well and bobber and jig of course
