Default San Juan's this time of year.....

What's happening in in the SJ's this time of year gang?

We're taking the Liquid Asset up there in a few weeks. I know crabbing is closed and the blackmouth are slow right now...that totally sucks! How about shrimping or clamming?

Anyone ever make the run over to Victoria? How about to Sidney?

Guess we might need to survive on pan fried oysters and kelp greenling!!!!

Any input would be great!

Hey Dennis, I keep forgetting to call you back!

We've made the trek to Victoria coming across the Strait from Port Angeles. It's not the most fun trip when the wind is blowing though. Vicotria is a beautiful port and town. Lots of good spots to eat and things to see within walking distance of the marina.

Not sure about this time of year up there. We've always gone the last week in June and it's awesome. That's usually the last week before it really starts getting busy up there.

You don't want to take that 2359 up there though. It just won't work. I tell you what, I'll let you take my 2002 and you can just leave the 2359 with me. Besides, you don't need all that extra room anyway.

The blackmouth fishing is a little slow but it should pick up out there pretty soon. This time of year your best bet will be trolling the bottom at any one of the banks south of lopez/san juan. McArthur and smith island also hold decent number of fish and very few fisherman. Shrimping and crab is closed until next month (shrimp opens the last weekend in April) but there's plenty of rockfish and greenling to catch. The rockfish are mostly on the small side and not worth eating but the greenling fry up real nice.

Clamming is also decent right now. the WDFW posts pretty good information on clamming on their website and lists all of the public beaches and health status/restriction reports.
