Default New Terrafin Zones

Here are some new zones.

Newport / Depoe Bay (it's a little more granular than the earlier "central oregon coast" zone):

Terrafin is allowing non-subscribers to view the new sample charts, until the end of March. Here is an e-mail from them, with the log-in information:
------------------------------

If you would like check out the site for a bit we have set up a temporary login
for potential subscribers to use for a few days. That way you can watch the site
each day, see the good charts along with the bad charts, look at the areas of
coverage, etc.

This login will be valid until March 31st. The details are:

username: showme
password: charts

To view the current charts, start at the main page:
http://www.terrafin.com/sstview/

Then, on the left hand side, click on "Latest Pix". On the Latest Pix page
you'll find the indexes for all the regions, browse through those and see which
ones cover your area of interest. Then, I suggest you click on "List All" in the
same line as your selected region. That will give you an index of the last 7
charts for the region. You'll see each image is rated, 1 star being the worst
and 5 stars being the best. From there you can view the various charts for that
region. (When you click on a chart date to view it, that's when you will be
prompted to enter the username and password.)

Hope this helps. If you have questions feel free to contact me.

Best Regards,

Jeff

$95 bucks a year for a subscription, eh? That means it will be really tempting to let the subscribers copy and paste the charts on ifish, especially when it gets to be Tuna Time.

How should we handle that and still be legal and ethical?

Skein, Hopefully, no one will copy the subscriber stuff to the website (I don't think anyone has so far) - I am pretty sure reproduction is protected under copyright or something similar. Honestly, $95 a year is a deal ($85 for renewal). CoastWatch is free and almost as good. I guess as Forum Moderator, that's what you get paid the big bucks for. Cheers...Bob

Skein, there are several salty dogs who have had subscriptions the past few years, and I'm pretty sure no one has copied a "subscription" image.

Like Bob says, Coastwatch is free. You can get the most recent images from Coastwatch. For Terrafin, there is a delay for the enhanced images to show up on the FREE part of the site. If you want immediate access to the most recent enhanced (zoom-in) shots, you have to pay.

Note: the ones I posted above were part of the "freebie" offering.

I just wanted to speak the words right up front. When the dam breaks there's going to be 5,000 guys clamoring for the latest SST and it will be soooooo tempting to post the latest Terrafin shot....

I'll be one of the 5,000, so remind me of this post, will ya?

$95/year... Hmm... If we do 10 Tuna trips a year, thats 9.50 per trip. Ever spend more than that for something that produced less that the latest ocean temps? Point is - it's a good deal.

Last year and the year before I got by on the free stuff and the posts here and by talking with folks about where they were going. This year I start a concerted study of temperatures and fish.n The first step is forking over the $95 to get Terrafin images. Much easier than Coastwatch and I like the sight. I don't mind paying for a service when it adds value and they are responsive to the customers, as Terrafin is. Off goes the check!

Sensei, you show your obvious experience regarding the importance of temperature in all fishing. Tell me again how it goes....

Hot day = cold beer...?

Cold day = hot toddy...?

Really cold day, add wasabe.....?

Isn't that what you taught us?
