Default Spring break springer bust.

As my spring break starts next week,Marh 13 thru the 21, Im discouraged at the fish #'s in the river .
I have a week away from work but I cant seem to get excited for a slow river fish.
Whats happening at the coast? Are there clams to dig? Bottom fish to eat ? Crabs to catch.
If I head over to the salt , Will any of you be out playing around the bays?
I will probably have my 11 year old son with me .
Can we dig clams at long beach ?
Help!!! id. painter

If you're planning on crabbing or clamming, don't forget your shellfish license. Let us know what you plan on doing. Maybe we can get together while you're here!

The crabbing is reported to be good in Hammond area. Seas are trending down when the wind cooperates.
Springers are close and more and more are being caught as the season increases.
I still have boat stuff to keep me busy but I need some wet hull time in the worst way.
Maybe we could take the boys crabbing when you get here.
The clamming is good on the minus tides when the surf isn't pounding.
Check ocean conditions and wind forefasts to swag a guess as to how good it is. When the wind howls and the surf crashes the clams do not show very well at all.
Have a safe trip out.
I still have a Halibut rig with your name on it

So,,,,, you say Im being stupid O.K.,, I can deal with that  .Pleanty of fish in the river.
Big ditch ? KP ? Duhhhh.
I have watched the board, but was getting the impression that as of yet, it was still pretty slow. Remember I am still looking at piles of snow in my street three feet high. I have a hard time knowing how to judge the fishing before I go, without some dam counts. To day I looked and saw 197 total and was looking for a plan B.
I dont know very much of the river and the area I do know is just below Bonneville and then above the dam.
Tell me more Miss B.,,, I would love to be able to come over and do some catching as well as be on the river with my son.
Im all ears,,, so to speak. Thanks

IDP, Lots of sun right now, the water is bound to warm up. Where will you be staying? Want to go to the beach?

Pilar is right (what's new)! The sun is coming out and the water should warm along with increased visibility in the rivers the bite should also warm up. There are in there it is just a matter of timing and I think you might get hit it just right. If not you can always put in a day or two in the rivers and then head to the coast for clamming (no idea if clamming is open or what the regs are on that)if it doesn't work out.

Thanks Mr Fisherman.Ill come to Depoe in July ,,16th 17th 18th, for sure! Salmon Halibut and Tuna are on the agenda that weekend (wind must cooperate).
I went home yesterday and started on plan A for my break. I know where and how to get a springer below Bonneville. So that is where Ill start. Ill stay in Cascade locks Or. at the Best Western (they will take dogs) my Britt. fishes with me .Ill probably put the boat in at the Hamilton boat ramp in Wash. Or if it starts to pick up maybe fish the Wind.
I will bring a friend and his 10 year old son and my 11 year old son. This will cut costs in half and help me save for the Tuna in July.
I also shortened the fish time to three days to help save for the Tuna trip. Ill be fishing thurs , friday and sat. the 18-20th.
At this point I really dont care if we catch a fish or not.I just need to get the boat wet and know I have a chance of catching one.
This is filler till Tuna. Hi Ho. id. painter

Chris,

I have a guest room and enough parking for you and your rig.
The Big C and the ditch are just 45 minutes away.
Give me a call.
I have a fenced yard and my 10 old son and 2 yr old lab could use some playmates

Oh yea, I have those days off too  .

id.painter,
We've been doing really well on the crabbing out of Hammond. Last weekend we got 4 limits on Friday and 29 crab on Saturday. It got kind of rough out there late Saturday morning. Still lots of nice crab out there.

Ilove FRESH crab.
Thank you for the kind offer Ray. You are too kind . I would hate to bardge in on your wife . Me and my gang. We need to give your wife a bit more notice than this.
I made a reservation at the motel in Cascade locks for this year . If you are still there next spring ,,Ill take you up on the offer. Thanks very much.
Keith, I would enjoy catching anything right now, it has been a long winter .I think for this trip we are thinking springers. Next winter for Sturg.
I really have no clue about where to fish for springer other than along the island below Bonneville and the Wind.
Two years ago I anchored and Kwikfished up about 10 springers for 5 days. That is the extent of my catching below Bonne.
Last year I fished one morning on the M. Channel trolling a cut plug. didnt catch any fish but learned a little bit about the method.I still dont really know where the heck I was all day .
I would love to get together and have some of the pro's show me how it is done .
Lets fish! id. painter

Last weekend my uncle and cousin went crabbing in Newport and clamming out by the south jetty. They said both were pretty slow, just my $0.02.

Hey id. painter...

When are you going to be in town??

I'm hittn' the river (Columbia or Willy or Mult. Chan. or....)Sunday, and have a very good feeling that I'm going to catch my first springer of the year

If your going to be in town, give me a call (503)-407-9036. I may have room on my boat, or you can keep us company trolling or in a hog line if you bring your boat down....
