Default 1995 25HP Mercury Jet Pump

Well i found one and the guys says that it is a factory pump so it is 25HP at the pump with a bigger power head like a 35HP. My question is did Mercury do this in 1995 and what do you think a fair price for this motor would be? Its in very good shape never been in the salt looks like new. Thanks

I had a 1998 40hp Yamaha with a jet that gives about 28hp at the pump. I used this motor on a 1648 welded G3 jon and it did just fine with up to three people. If I remember right I could get about 30 mph with two people on board. You would have to check the serial number to see what size the power head is.

I have one of those motors. Can't remember the year, but it is mid-90s. Has 25 HP on the cowling, but I think Merc honestly says it is about 20 hp. I think there is always some loss when going from a prop to a pump. I bought it for a 14 ft Lowe alum boat. It gets it up on plane and goes in the low 20's (if I remember right, checked it with a GPS) with me, wife and dog. Goes faster with just me. Memory fades (so many motors, so little time) but I think I paid $1700. I don't know what a 1648 Grizzly is, but assume it is a 16 ft boat. I would think the motor might be a little underpowered. If you want you could stick my motor on your boat and see how it goes , assuming it is the same model as the one you are looking at.

Did you buy new or used? I have been looking for a 50 tiller for my 12' sled.

Send me a pm if you don't mind and give me an idea of what you paid.

Thanks, Giz...

I own a 1995 25 horse merc and, if I remember correctly, when I trashed my lower unit on the Willamatte a few years backI was told by Steven's Marine that Merc did not put a jet pump on anything smaller than 40. If it is 25 at the pump it is probley a 40 horse. It is a great motor. Best of luck.
