Default Liscense Question

I have a friend who is new to the area and has a Waverunner. He lives in Washington and wants to know if he needs any sort of boater or operators liscense? Any info would be great. Thanks!

Sorry, waverunners are no longer allowed in the waters of the Columbia, Willamette and anywhere else I may be fishing.

IF they were allowed I believe he has to get the boaters education card (100% sure of that in Oregon, 95% sure in Wa.), and register the watercraft. There were a lot of specific rules/cautions regarding Personal Watercraft in the boaters exam I took last year.

Seriously and sincerely, if he does not know that answer, then he will not know the other rules -- such as the required distance that PWC's have to remain from anchored boats -- for one example. Perhaps you can get him the handbook from WA's agency that regulates boats.

Yes, they will need a boater's card in WA - http://www.parks.wa.gov/boatsafefaq.asp .
