Default CG Boarding

I was out in the San Juan's yesterday and was boarded by the CG(Station Bellingham) for a safety inspection over by Orcas. I could not have been more impressed by their actions. Very polite, courteous, and professional. These guys usually get the kudos for the big heroic stuff, but I am a big fan of the small stuff as well.

I know they have much bigger fish to fry in today's world, but it nice to know they still have time to make sure some average Joe is squared away.

Joe

BTW--The fishing sucked. Fought 3' white caps most of the day. Marked a little bait, but no stinky fish box for "No Quarter".

A few weeks ago I was headed out to the Columbia from Cathedral Park. I was cruising along and could see the orange Coastie boat headed toward Portland. As we get closer, the blue lights come on and he heads in my direction. I shut down and they pull up along side. Real nice guys. The guy that was doing the inspection thought we were crazy to go fishing in the crappy weather that day. He was from S. Cal. and said it's too cold around here.

Anyway the inspection lasted about 20 minutes. They have a new system where they enter the info into a palm pilot and then just print out a reciept. Well, they were having some tech issues and ended up starting over and ended up giving me the old "Good as gold" form. I wish they'd give you a sticker but they don't. He said the "good as gold" form was good for about 6 months.

They were very apologetic for taking so long as boats kept going by. No big deal to me really and it was nice talking to them. Great crew. I must be getting older cuz I swear they all looked like kids.
