Default Surf fishing.

I'm a gulf coast native and have never fished the northwest coast. My wife and I have a weekend planed in Ocean Shores, Wa. in a few weeks and I'm searching for tips or links for the area. I have no desire to try jetty fishing, I have too many risk factors in my life to dare the sea gods to claim me.
Bait, tackle shops, links and any other help in that area will be greatly appreicated.
good luck

Robert: Welcome to Ifish. Don't take it too personally that people have not responded to your question about surf fishing. I've noticed that surf fishing topics don't get a lot of attention here, it is mostly about boat fishing. I've done a lot of surf fishing in Southern California, but not much up here. I sense that surf fishing up here is very good, but almost nobody does it.

Your targets are Redtail (aka Pinkfin) surfperch on sandy beaches, and Pile Perch and Striped Perch on the rocky beaches. Also greenling and rockfish in deeper rocky areas accessible from shore. I wish I could be more helpful. Best of luck

They were catching stripers in the surf at Bastendorf Beach, south of the Coos Bay Bar, in the 70's. The Oregon surf isn't too frendly so be careful.

rfo,
Sorry I can't help you about Washington beaches, but I used to surf fish in Lincoln City. We would fish low slack and the incoming tide. We used a 8'6" spinning rod with a double spreader rig and a 3 or 4 ounce pryimid sinker. Sand shrimp for bait. Cast out as far as you can, then run back up the beach before you get wet. We would put the rods in sand spikes and wait for the bite. Sometimes we would catch 2 (surf perch) at a time. I know someone posted a great web site awhile back on surf fishing. I looked, but couldn't find it. You might try the community board to see if anyone there can help.
