Default The Great American Dream!

I posted this on LIG...It's about fishin' so I'll post it here also. Found this on another site, enjoy

A boat docked in a tiny Mexican village. An American tourist complimented
the Mexican fisherman on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took
him to catch them.

"Not very long," answered the Mexican.

"But then, why didn't you stay out longer and catch more?" asked the
American.

The Mexican explained that his small catch was sufficient to meet his needs
and those of his family.

The American asked, "But what do you do with the rest of your time?"

"I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, and take a siesta with
my wife. In the evenings I go into the village to see my friends, have a
few drinks, play the guitar, and
sing a few songs. I have a full life."

The American interrupted, "I have a M.BA. from Harvard and I can help you.
You should start by fishing longer every day. You can then sell the extra
fish you catch. With the extra revenue, you can buy a bigger boat. With the
extra money the larger boat will bring, you can buy a second one and a
third one and so on until you have an entire fleet of trawlers. Instead of
selling your fish to a middle man, you can negotiate directly with the
processing plants and maybe even open your own plant. You can then leave
this little village and move to Mexico City, Los Angeles, or even New York
City! From there you can direct your huge enterprise."

"How long would that take?" asked the Mexican.

"Twenty, perhaps twenty-five years," replied the American.

"And after that?"

"Afterwards? That's when it gets really interesting," answered the
American, laughing. "When your business gets really big, you can start
selling stocks and make millions!"

"Millions? Really? And after that?"

"After that you'll be able to retire, live in a tiny village near the
coast, sleep late, play with your children, catch a few fish, take a siesta
with your wife, and spend your
evenings drinking and playing the guitar with your friends!"

Thanks, Bruce. That puts life into perspective.I wonder if that will raise the property values in the fishing villages? I wonder if we should start our own "fishing village" in Newport?

I love this story.

I'll let the MBA definition fly as I happen to be one.

No offense taken, unless intended.

Phil, that was aimed at the guys that run the place where I work. Lots of education and zero common sense.

No offense inteded on my part Phil!

I was too dumb to get one! For some reason Excessive Alcohol Intake 401, Skiing 401, and Female Chasing 401 weren't on the course requirements list. I guess that's why I had to leave?

My plan here is to let the backstepping continue for a bit longer and then suggest my forgiveness can be purchased for a tall, cold barley pop next time we run into each other this summer.

Works for me.

Let's see.... my last week looked like this:

Thursday - Coyote hunting near Burns
Saturday - Move UG's tote and drink beer.
Sunday - Cross-country skiing - beer sure tastes good after a 7 1/2 mile ski
Monday - Out to the rifle range to zero in new sage-rat rifle
Tuesday - Get decoys and blind ready for goose hunt
Wednesday - Goose hunt in AM, rabbit hunt over beagles in the afternoon
Thursday - Steelhead fishing on the Siletz (got one)
Today - Gather up dive gear for this weekend
Saturday - Dive Popeye's boat

I think my priorities are pretty well lined up....

Hey, Phil, it's okay to be an MBA, but you have to buy the barley-pop. We're all just poor dumb Mexican fishermen and can't afford it.

Skein,

You wouldn't be the first poor, dumb Mexican who bought me a beer. There is no p for pride in MBA.

And, I can guarantee you, there is no exclusion from the "poor" club either. I am a living testament to that.

Oh well. It was worth a shot. I'll just have to buy my own beer. You want one, visit the camper in the lot at Newport with the Ifish sticker on it this summer.
