Default Blacktail scored at Sportsman Show

So all my buddies hassled me enough to take my 2008 blacktail in to be scored this weekend at the Sportsman Show. I'm not the type that just looks for a Boone and Crocket bucks, altho I only shoot great 3 pointers or a 4 pointers on the private property I hunt. I have many times passed up nice bucks yet let them all go, fully knowing there are great bucks in this area. I shot another beauty this year with the old Ruger 7X57 my hunting partner Marcus who ownes Al's Gun shop in Forest Grove 503-357-2441 gave me for my 50th birthday. 150 grain Nosler ballisic tip at a mild 2600fps did the trick. When I walked up to the booth the guy steped back and said wow what a buck thats book for sure. Not knowing all that much about scoring I went to the Boone and Crocket web site and scored it myself and came up with 118 with 130 needed to make book. All said and done, I all along thought this buck would be just under the minimum score from my measurements. Well low and behold I was right. The new standard for a rifle blacktail is 125 points and this buck gross scored 124 1/8 so I was just under the minimum. Missed it by 7/8's gross. The finial score was 121 7/8's Life goes on beacuae I love hunting blacktails and know how hard it is to get record bucks.

He don't sweat missing the books, that buck is still a top-tier champ in my book I'd take it any day. Nice work.
