Default What is Turpentining?

I've been doing some research on the history of the 30-30 and associated modifications to certain types of guns. I cam across reference to turpentining a gun (H.V. Stent Turpentining the .30-30 Handloaders Digest 4th. Ed.) Does anyone have a clue what this means? Would someone by chance have this write up int he HD 4th edition? I haven't been able to located it.

The net is a wonderful place ...

I don't know if this is what is meant by the reference, but it appears that soaking a gun barrel in turpentine will remove gunpowder. I've never done it, and have not intentions of such, but maybe that is what the reference is about?
