Default Tuna ???

For those of us not blessed with a stomach for the sea or the guts to that far out in it, What do we look for when attempting to buy tuna of the docks? Is Newport or Florence a better place to buy? Our biggest concern is what do we not want to find when looking for tuna on the docks.

I realize this is my first post in the Salty Dogs. Sorry it's a question but I can't contribute hear as I enjoy seeing dry dirt on all sides of my boat when I am in it.

Thanks

Sled

These 2 links tell you just about everything you need to know. One thing I'd add... try to establish a business relationship with several tuna boat families. This way you can find out in advance when they are coming in, and get the fish right away. If you just show up randomly at the dock, you might be limited to fish that has been sitting in the hold at the dock for days & days. Not a problem if it is blast frozen, but definitely a problem if it has been sitting on ice or in slush.

Not sure if Fish Assassin has a Fish Sellers Permit or not but if not, I've got one. I'll be making some tuna runs this summer. Email me if you're interested and I'll let you know when I go.
