Default ? Ocean Charter Trip for Wife's Birthday

I am thinking of taking the wife for some type of ocean fishing trip for her 30th birthday next month (14th). Neither one of us have been out in the ocean, and neither one of us have ever been charter/guided when fishing. I know the bass and lings would be good that time(or at least should be), but I am also wondering if the springers will be around then as well...or is that too early. I know she would be thrilled to actually catch a 'good' salmon, as the only other ones she has caught were some chums up in BC.....ive tried to get her into other salmon/steelhead on other outings, but im just not that good
Id like to do a salmon-bottomfish trip if possible. I didnt know if charter boats do that or if its just one or the other.....most likely would go out of Depoe btw. I guess maybe I should do some calling around as well but thought you guys might have some imput also

Dano?

thanks
Russ

Get hold of Albacore Tuna Captain on the Blitz in Newport. He can tell you what's up as far as the fishing goes, and fill you in on all the particulars.

Check out the charters at the bottom of the page, as Skein said.

I would imagine there are very few that will be targeting salmon that early though. The season opens on the 15th but it'll be pretty scattered.

Rockfish will be hot and heavy though. If you want the best chance possible to catch salmon I'd wait till July/August timeframe. In fact, I'm sure if you watch this board you'll find yourself an open seat with one of the Dogs.

Good luck!

Try the Blitz with Capt. Mike, he knows the water, puts his sports in fish and He brings fresh coffee!!! What more could you ask for?

Russ, as Rod said, the salmon will be scattered that early based on the commercial guy's catch early in the season.

Bottom fishing should be really good however sometimes after the winter storms kick her up it to can be tough with the fish really scattered.

Last trip I talked to one of my friends in Depoe he said it was a real struggle and one trip they worked there wat all the way up to "Casino Reef".

It should be good however and I would wait to book a trip unyill it gets close to that time to see if it is really worth the time and money.
You don't have to worry about booking this time of year because there are always plenty of boats rubbing the docks.

You mentioned Depoe and that is a good choice.
Lars who is Samson on ifish is a great choice and he will work as hard at catching fish for his customers as anybody.
He also has a nice 50' Delta.
Problem is that you can't run a 50' Delta with only two customers and bookings can be pretty slow this time of year.
I do know some good 6-pack boats also though.

He's the one I set Bill Monroe and Rick (Local Fisherman News) up with last year just for a short trip and picture taking cruise as we were working on a surf/rock fish article.
We had a ball and caught lot's of fish in the short time we were out there.
Bill Monroe booked an opening day Halibut trip with him after that and had a great trip returning early with a limit of halibut and glass floats!

Email me your phone# as I have unlimited long distance up here in Longview and I'll call you and let you know the options.
