Ocean Sport Roamer 30..Very nice!
Just saw this in "Saltwater Sportsman." This looks like a tuna fishing machine. 340 gallons fuel, top speed 45mph, cruising up to 34mph.
Base priced w/ twin Volvo D4 210-hp diesels,
$175,000.
Very nice looking ride.....guess I will have to wait a few months though, to put in my order!

Re: Ocean Sport Roamer 30..Very nice!
Rod, I thought about selling off the house too......but that didn't leave enough money to fill up the fuel tank....!!!
I tell you there Birdnest, you might be on to something???
Let's see now...ifin I bought that bote, I'd get me some of them old boys from that "Junk Yard Wars TV Show." Some old rusty pipe, couple a wheels offen a "49 Packard," some of that green paint from down there at the Army Surplus store.
A little weld here and there, some of those galvynized bolts, and I'd have a darn fine lookin bote. Practical too!
Why shoot, I'll bet Keta has all the parts to do the job in his barn....!!!

For $175k you could own a 30' MaxCat catamaran with twin diesels and all the
boat toys you could think of ... 'Course, you know what MY choice would be!

Re: Ocean Sport Roamer 30..Very nice!
The boat is a joint effort between IMC and Jim Lindell. IMC used to be the biggest SeaSport Dealer til the second largest dealer bought the factory and pulled IMC's dealership.
I have been on this boat. It is amazing. The infused panels are revolutionary. 50% lighter and 150% stronger. They actually put the whole hull (and every other part) into a giant plastic bag and pull negative pressure to draw the resin into the panels. Check out the speed and mileage stats.
Oh, and despite the $$$, they are selling like hotcakes. I'll bet the lead time is at least 1 year.
If you scroll way down you can see how boats are designed these days. The computer driven cutter shapes a giant blob of foam to make a perfectly simmetrical form for the hull mold. Pretty interesting.

Re: Ocean Sport Roamer 30..Very nice!
Robin isn't that sweet? How many tuna boat refrigeration systems do you think it would take to pay for one of those?
Slabquest, the computer driven cutter to make the plug is very cool. I wonder about the ride, with that much weight reduction, might be kind of light. Great for speed however. Did you get to take a ride on her?
Almost makes me want to build another one, almost...!!!

Re: Ocean Sport Roamer 30..Very nice!
TWB, good call.
When I checked out the boat on the water it was riding kinda high. This is a boat that needs to be loaded down with stuff to preform properly. For the testing, they topped off the fuel and put 700 pounds of lead in the boat and it was still running light.
In real life, an owner would pile enough weight in to make it run perfect, no doubt.

Re: Ocean Sport Roamer 30..Very nice!
I saw that TWB quoted the price of a base model, Ocean Sport Roamer as $175,000. I looked over at the date and saw this thread was from 01-18-2004. I happened to have a new price list on my desk, and the same boat with a pair of D-4 225s is now $274,990. Anyway, I thought that was pretty interesting and worthy of a post.

Re: Ocean Sport Roamer 30..Very nice!
A friend of mine has a Ocean Sport Roamer 30 and I was lucky enough to get to fish it offshore last albacore season on numerous occasions. He had his boat outfitted with all the goodies. Which tacks quite a bit more$ He also had a custom trailer built for it. The boat is so pretty I was afraid to get tuna blood all over it but still bloody it up real good. I agree with slab though. For a boat that size I thought it would have a little smoother ride but it was not bad. I took her up over 40 mph on a day with not too much chop and she rode real nice and with 700 miles of range as well. Well if one of you guys really want one my friend gets bored of his toys quickly and his is for sale with very few hours on it. I helped put most of them on it. You can see it at yachtworld.com I think he is asking 3 something but it has everything and more and the custom trailer.

Re: Ocean Sport Roamer 30..Very nice!
Saw one at Newport this past weekend. Holey Moley, what a beautiful boat! It looked like it just came off the production floor. Beautiful aluminum trailer with gooseneck and a brand new Ford F450 pulling it.
If the owner is an ifish member I have to apologize for any drool I might have got on the side of it while I was looking. Sorry.

Re: Ocean Sport Roamer 30..Very nice!
I have been on one in Ilwaco and wow, what a ride. Never have been to sea on one, but the owner is on his way to Alaska about now in this ride.
Also, been next to him on the way to the tuna grounds and all you see is a bit of spray and his transom as he pulls away.
Am told this boat was made by the people who used to own and manufacture Sea Sport.
Reel Pleasure, you have done the tuna thing on this boat, any comments??

Ahhh, I think there is a little design flaw.
Quote:
Fish box is
35"x18"x22" deep.
Great for storage or
fill it up with fish.

I don't think it will hold my 57" halibut. How many times will I have to run back to port and unload then fill it up again just because of a lacking fish box? How many Tuna will it hold? Will that need to be replaced for a full tote on the bow?
None the less, it is definately a beautiful looking boat

Re: Ocean Sport Roamer 30..Very nice!
Those are just the hanging fish box baskets. You can take them out and easily fit a half dozen cow tuna in it. The fish box on these is ENORMOUS! They are big enough to have a refrigeration system installed inside them as an option.

Re: Ocean Sport Roamer 30..Very nice!
Royalfish, the boat is manufactured by Lindell Boat on Whidbey Island. Jim Lindell and Ron Meng went in on building the boat. Ron used to sell SeaSports before he had the dealership removed in the late 90's.
As for the Roamer, the initial price posted os $174,000 is way off. The prices cited by Bob is more realistic. The boat show price three years ago as close to $260,000 and I would bet a fully rigged boat now would be over $300,000.
Personally the boat design didn't appeal to me. It sits very high out of the water in the front end.
I'm also leary of any boat that's a new design and manufacture. I believe only time tells the true story of how good a boat is. Right now they're in their 4th year of production so who knows how they will hold up in the long haul.

All I can say is OH, BABY OH, BABY. Got to tell you guys this is one of the finest boats built it the 30 ft. range for both crusing and fishing. Larry didn't cut any corners outfitting the "Fat Cat" she's one sweet ride!
And fishin off of her is always a Reel Pleasure........Tim.

Re: Ocean Sport Roamer 30..Very nice!
Rod, we saw the same boat last Saturday in Newport. Was going to Englund's for a little shopping and it was in their parking lot. It still looks as good at when I first saw the picture.
Hoghunter, if I remember right, the quote for the basic boat at $175,000. was from the magazine article. It wasn't from Island Marine. I think you are right, looking at one in person, it looks like $300,000.
As Rod said, the 4 axel aluminum trailer was just as impressive. The 450 Ford looked mighty small hooked up to that load!
There was someone onboard cleaning or working on it, didn't want to bother him, so we just drooled from afar.
It was, to say the least, very impressive!

That's a sweet looking boat but for $175,000 that's a nice down payment on a house. So if I were you, i'd get the boat. good luck in you decision, glad I could help.

Re: Ocean Sport Roamer 30..Very nice!
ha, that is funny. Maybe somebody should tell Andy that..or maybe the quote he gave me for a 30' Maxweld is high.
The Roamer is a nice boat for sure. They start mid twos and go North fast. The 30' w gas power is way North of $175. Fit and finish is spectacular, tho I had a concern with dry fiber breakout on the fish box lids on the boat show boat.

Re: Ocean Sport Roamer 30..Very nice!
There's a used 2005 30' w/twin D4's for $279k on the IMC page.
And Andy has a used 32' Maxcat for $250K. I visit his web page on a regular basis and this boat has actually gone up in price over that last couple years.
