Westside Archery shop recomendations?
I'm looking to buy a Bowtech Diamond Stud. I live in Hillsboro. I'm not opposed to driving over to the east side, but I would prefer something close to home.

Re: Westside Archery shop recomendations?
some great shops around, but if I was in your shoes and knew I was going to buy a bowtech (good choice, btw), I would probably go to Kutch Archery. They are pretty much Bowtech only and really know the bows. The poeple are super nice and knowledgeable and there is a great range there, too. I really like Broken Arrow and Archer's Afield is great, too, among others, but Kutch would get my vote for a Bowtech.

Thanks, I didn't know about Kutch. Maybe I'll steer some money their way
They're about the same distance from my house as Archers Afield.

Another vote for Kutch
And once you get your bow all set up, you can swing through the course and shoot some 3D

My son got me hooked on 3d - never done it before. Did a shoot with him in the middle-of-nowhere Idaho and loved it. But, even though my trusty old Martin Cougar shoots through Elk just fine, I'm feeling like pampering myself with a new bow. I shot a Diamond Black Ice and a Stud at Cabelas in Boise - fell in love. I'm going with the Stud because I don't see the extra $100 in benefit with the Black Ice. I like to keep the money local if I can.

Kutch or XXX if you looking at a Bowtech. Archery Owrld in Vancouver is excellent but doesn't carry Bowtech. They do have a great service dept though,Mike did the tunning on my Guardian and he does a great job.

Kutch is great and they know their stuff. XXX is a group of hard core hunters and will treat you right as well.
Kutch is expanding on to the shop and I saw yesterday that XXX is moving into town, presumably to a better location. Good luck.

They are also a couple of top target archers as well. So they know both sides of the sport.

Re: Westside Archery shop recomendations?
I'm glad that there's a renewed interest in the sport. And I hope both Kutch and XXX do well. I'm hoping to be able to spend some money this week. By the way, Hunter's Friend is selling the Stud completely outfitted (and I mean completely), tuned and shipped to your door for $699.
I really like that new 3 brush arrow rest - seems better than the whisker biscuit. I'm wondering if these short ATA bows can be setup to give 20-70yd sighting?

That rest is junk unless you shoot aluminum arrows through it as the hole is too big. You get a $19.00 walmart release and the lack of adjustment....only a 006 straightness to those arrows.
There is no way they can truly tune that bow to you with out you being there shooting it. Plus how would this be shopping local if you were to buy that bow? Most guys that buy mail order package bows like this end up spending more money buying the right stuff for it later and paying a pro shop the money to properly tune and fit the bow to you and not the seller.
I say buy local. Support your local pro shops and they will support you when you need the help. Go in and shoot the bow with the different sights, rests, arrows and get something that you like that’s in your price range.

I don't remember saying that I was going to mail order. What I said is that you can get the bow setup and delivered to your doorstep.
Everybody and his brother is shooting carbons through those rests. They probably won't work for the old 16/64 Beemans without some shims, but they must work for the newer "fat" carbons. I watched a lot of videos of people using that rest - would be a little strange to build a rest for the declining product line, i.e. aluminiums.
When you're just starting out a pro shop is the only way to go. When you're not so green, a pro shop MAY be worth it - depending on the "pro's".

There are different models of these rests and the cheap ones don't have ajustments for different size arrows. Even a not so green guy can learn form a shop as the shop deals with these issues daily. You don't want the brushes to be tight on the arrow but you also don't want the arrow to fall off to one side of the brushes either. There are a lot of over looked thing that people can make work like release that don't fit properly but can still be triggered, draws that are to long(this happens a lot) getting the right stuff the first time will only make your shooting more enjoyable and accurate.

Don't fall for the mail order bow- you'd have better luck with a mail-order bride. Do you REALLY want to walk into xXx or Kutch when your problems begin and ask them to help you, knowing that you tried to save a couple dollars by not buying local? You were on the right track- you just got slightly side tracked- he he

Wow, public ed has really gone downhill since I was in school.
Read my post - nowhere did I say that I was going to mail order a bow.
And who here uses a hostage rest? Anybody?

My son uses a whisker biscuit and loves it. He shoots really well with it. It seems to be holding up fine as he shoots a lot. Cost $35. I was thinking biscuit until I saw the hostage rest. But I did some reading and the early versions wore the lower brush out within 100 shots. And evidently you can't use helically-fletched arrows as there's no way to keep the fletching from hitting the rest - can't use more than 4* helical. Not a big deal to me as I don't think I have anything fletched with more than 4*. One problem is that the hostage seems to have doubled in price - used to be ~$35 and now Cabelas wants ~$70. They added a lot of adjustment capability that you don't need/want for hunting.

Keeping it simple is the goal, but there's something to be said for having fine tuning capabilities to shoot a broad head since it's the most temperamental arrow you're likely to shoot. Especially considering what you're shooting at. A lot of people say ,"It's just for hunting', but that's when they're shooting more temperamental equipment in less than ideal situations.
Please don't take this as criticism, it's just something to consider.

Re: Westside Archery shop recomendations?
I would recommend you see Babcock at Alpine Archery in LaGrande for a Bowtech also, the Alpine lines are really interesting. I am a Martin Fan, but would say Bowtech or Alpine are a great choice. Visit with Ron on the phone, or visit with Gene or Doug that retired and sold the shop 2 years ago. God Bless

Not a criticism at all - you're right. But, and this is important, you need to be setup long in advance to shoot broadheads. And once setup it should be locked down. I don't like surprizes from my equipment out in the field.

Best by far. Go to Kutch. Call first to see what is in stock.
The Bowtech proshop in Eugene is good too. Long drive but FULL selection.
