Favorite Spinnerbait?
Does anyone have a favorite spinnerbait manufacturer? I'm having a hard time finding a durable spinnerbait that will hold up to a few fish. I won't mention the make or model, but I took 3 out last summer and all 3 died after one fish. The arms were so bent that I couldn't get them to run true again. The biggest of the 3 fish was probably around 5 pounds, which shouldn't have been a big deal.

Re: Favorite Spinnerbait?
Hi,
My favorite spinnerbaits are made by Revenge. I like the 1/2oz. size and the colorado/willow blade combo. Their very "life-like"!
I have one spinnerbait that died after the skirt broke, 20 smallies later.
My "old" tried and true blades are by Weapon. They have the "Roumba" stamp on the blade.
Thanks,
Joel

Re: Favorite Spinnerbait?
I have caught some of my biggest Large Mouth on Older Hilderbrandt Spinner Baits, Dont use them much any more, but they have held up like nobodys business. I always was partial to the Blue Gill colors. You can still find Hilldebrandts, but not like the ones I have.

Re: Favorite Spinnerbait?
Many of the best anglers that I know and have talked to about spinnerbaits agree that Revenge spinnerbaits are the best. They are not easy to get a hold of, as they are a bit of an enthusiast brand, at least around here.
My favorite spinner baits are Dry Creek Lil' Squirt's, they are very similar to Revenge, from what I have seen. Both have weight back (in front and behind the skirt for balance/durability). This weighting design also allows for a small package, even in heavier weight categories (3/4 oz.). You can order them off of their website, www.drycreekoutfitters.com. They are spendy, but worth it.
(Dry Creek also makes awesome tubes.)
If I want a larger profile spinnerbait, I usually throw a Terminator T1 (has a titanium wire) or a Nichols Pulsator.

Re: Favorite Spinnerbait?
For some reason, I haven't had much luck with spinnerbaits and smallies. With that, I haven't had much luck with crankbaits and largemouth. When I'm trying to cover water for smallies, I've used lipless cranks and various diving cranks with a lot of success. I use the deep divers to bump along the bottom and the shallow cranks around pilings and such.
When it comes to largemouth, I've had great luck with a single large colorado blade for slow-rolling. For burning a bait around weed beds or trying to cover some water, I've used single willows or even a tandem with smaller blades. Most of my biggest bass have come off of a 1/2 oz white spinnerbait slow-rolled. These are the times when my spinnerbaits get trashed. I'll slow-roll the bait and hook into a real pig. When I get the bait back (whether fish was landed or not), the arms are all bent and I can't get them to go back to normal.
I'll look into the spinnerbaits you guys have listed. If you guys have more ideas, send them my way! Thanks guys.

Maybe we should all get together and do some commercials then? We'd all have to get cool fake names like Roy Winkledorf and Bucky Jackmaster.

Re: Favorite Spinnerbait?
i throw a good amount of spinnerbaits for largemouth. from 3/8 to 3/4. When i fish throw spinnerbaits for smallies, i scale down to the booyah pond magic which i think is 1/16. Are the smallies agressive enough to hit the 3/8oz consistantly??

Re: Favorite Spinnerbait?
Barrett, IMO, even for smallies you want a med heavy spinnerbait (3/8oz to 1/2oz)....but just one that is a little more compact.
So I look for the heavy small baits like the Strike King Mini-Kings and add a big splitshot on the wire just ahead of the lead head. Also, taking off the colorado blades and replacing w/ small willows will also help keep it deeper.
Of course, then you have to ask yourself why bother buying them if you have to change everything about it. But honestly I have not found a spinnerbait I truely think is perfect for smallies locally. But I'm sure they're available online...somewhere.
My favorite color for river smallies is black w/ sliver blades.
But over on the Snake, I find a crappie pattern works real well too.
My favorite color for LM is the Big #4 & #5 Hilderbrants green skirt w/ gold head and gold blades.
