I am sure it's fine. It never hurt my batteries when I did it.

There is a small device called an Echo Charge that works very well for that. You can leave your boat hooked up without worry (will not overcharge).

I hope it is O.K....I just finished doing this (and replacing one dead battery). Someday I will install a battery minder/charger.

Guest has a new line of battery chargers out. I think there is one that has leads for two banks and is a progressive charger. For boat batteries you need a progressive charger that tapers the charging amps off after it detects that the batteries are fully charged. Most are either two or three stage chargers. For a Trophy, a small five or ten amp two stage charger would be all you need and you probably could wire it in permanently.

Fish Assassin has a long treatise on why marine battery chargers are the only ones to buy. Take his advice and never use a car battery charger in a boat even if it is a trailer boat. Something about hydrogen generation and open case transformers.

Default Battery Charging

I have a dual battery system on my 21' Trophy that is parked in my driveway.
Is it okay to charge up the batteries without removing them? They haven't been used since Sept.. I thought I'd put the battery selector on OFF and put a 2 amp or 3/4 a charge on them individually for 12 hours or so.
What do you think?

Thanks, Peri
