Default XD40 Pin is gouging primer.

Every shell is like this and has been since I got it.
It seems like it would have to be doing it as it jacks the shell out but how can that be possible as the pin would have to still be exposed as the shell is ejecting away from the claw..... Doesn't seem possible.
I have looked closely at the pin and it looks perfectly round. I was told there could be a burr on the pin but there's nothing that big as far as I can tell.
Does not seem normal. Any ideas?

I wouldn't sweat it if the gun runs good.

I think you have the root cause correctly identified, but I don't think it will ever cause an issue.

I'd send it back as well. Generally, a light primer strike is a symptom of a really light trigger. I don't know if the reverse is true, but I'd send it back or at least contact Springfield to find out.

What your seeing is not a result of any burr, a light primer strike, or even a light trigger pull.
What your seeing is firing pin drag. A semi-serious problem that can result in premature failure of the firing pin.

Possible causes:
1. Recoil spring not sized correctly for caliber. Perhaps they put in the wrong poundage spring. ie...like one from a differant caliber.
2. Firing pin spring is weak and/or firing pin too heavy.
...An extra power spring from Wolffs Gunsprings would correct.
...or a titanium firing pin.

Personally, I think #1 is the likely cause. Again Wolff Recoil spring from Brownells.com would be the quickest solution. Or a call to Springfield.

Wait.....isn't the XD a striker fire design? I think so.
Glocks have always had this same problem. And it's considered normal.
Forget what I said about the firing pin spring...that only applies to hammer & rebound spring systems. Not to striker fire systems.

But I still contend, a stronger recoil spring will help. It will increase the amount of time the breech remains locked, giving time tfor the pin to retract.

Good info all thx a ton.

HuntnFish I think I'll call Springfield and see what they say. I would hope they didn't assemble anything wrong as they are considered to be a pretty high notch maker... Considering that primers are stainless I just don't see how that wouldn't effect the pin over time. I'll give them a call about it.

Other than that what an awesome gun!!
