Scoring my buck ****Updated With Official Score****

Just thought I would give all you guys a chance to take a guess at what you think this guy might score. I am taking it to the Sportsmans show on Thursday to find out and I will post results Friday Morning. I realize some of you might be tired of seeing these kind of posts, and if you are don't guess. I always think it is fun to guess. Sorry, no prizes.

Let's see, add in the dadada, subtract here, yada yada.......I'd have to say somewhere in the range of.......about.........134 3/8 gross, and maybe about 130 1/8 net. Should be pretty close in my professional opinion. he he

Fishlipper, not to rain on your parade, great buck BTW, but that terrain looks like an old growth/native first growth forest, i.e., cascades (the stuff I hunt), since there is not much of that in the coast. If it is the cascades I don't think it counts as a Blacktail, at least to B&C.

I just added some figures together after a quick look at the right antler, as it is the smallest. I'd score it 119 3/8, final.

Not to downgrade this buck in any way, but I agree with sliverslinger and will say 110-112. As for where it was harvested, doesn't matter what the state says, THAT is a blacktail.

This buck was killed down in the Tiller area (Southern Oregon). Unfortunately, it will not count for B&C, but who care this was a great buck and it should make the Oregon Book and it was one of the best hunting experiences of my life. I am having Corey Wright do the taxidermy, and he guessed it upper 130's. We will see, either way I am really looking forward to getting the taxidermy done on him. It will be scored tomorrow night (Thursday) at the show. I will post the score Friday morning. Thank you for all of the kind words, and to the guy who said, "Not trying to rain on your parade", there is no way you could. There is a chance I may never kill another BT of this caliber again, book or no book.

I gotta think a lot of the people scoring the buck in the 110-120 range or netting way less than their gross estimate are looking at the left side a little wrong. Only irregular point is one of the back two, and no more than 2", and not the ~7" tine in front.

Completely different buck than SS's - that buck is all mass and short tine length, multiple deduct points. Great buck, but just won't score well. Doesn't really compare.

I'd say the buck will net out 4-5" less than gross.

I am going to guess just over 140 gross and 136-1/8 NET.... Very nice buck for a blacktail....


I just had to be barely above OMMEDIA.... I know he is close but I think he has some terrific main beams that may stretch the tape a bit further than we think.....

I'd disagree, not that it really matters. Take a 150 gross buck with 15 inches of deductions and a 140 gross buck with 5 inches of deductions and they net the same...but we'd all call the 150 buck bigger because it is.

Size matters...gross.

Yeah, my guess was "net" but I have never shot an animal because of what it would score. I've shot some big deer because they were big though.

You really think there is 10" of deductions, wow. I am not a seasoned scorer, but I could not come up with anywhere close to that much. Dont forget that 5th point does not end up being that much deduction. The only other thing is some difference int the front forks! It will be interesting to see. Tonight is the night, and I will update tomorrow.

Here is the lowest guess so far 110 net.
The highest guess is 146 net.
Average Net score is 130 (rounding down)

Not as many guessed gross, so I just did average net.
