anyone ever heard of a 1994 volvo KAD42A? if so what can you tell me about them. the boat i am looking at has this motor and outdrive as a package deal.

Is it a duoprop? Don't know anything personally about them.

Bugflicker, Volvo outdrives are like Volvo cars. Great design, no fancy do-dads to get in the way of what it was designed to do but like every thing from Sweden expensive to maintain. Volvo has been in the game of making small diesel engines for a long time. Next to Perkins they are probably the oldest marine diesel manufacturer. The Volvo outdrive is probably bulletproof. It probably gets great fuel economy plus a great deal more safety in that you are using diesel fuel. Also less routine maintenance as there is no sparkplugs, ignition wires, coils, or distributors to go bad out on the briny deep.

Mercruiser makes a good one. Our operators love them for working around the jetties. Really lowers your boat's center of gravity. Goes real good too.
