Default Penn 345 Reel ?????

What do you all think of the PENN 340 & 345 reels for Halibut???

And do you guys just drift while ur out there??? and do you jig your poles or put them in a rod holder????

They work fine for Halibut. Takes a lot of expensive spectra to fill one up though. I use a dacron backing followed by 350 yds of power pro on mine.
Just keep bumpin it off the bottom and raise it up a couple of feet. Rod holders are for lazy fishin only.

I've got a 340 In great shape full of 80lb Tuff line that I am thinking about selling. Its only a couple of years old.

I use 340's for halibut, with power handles from Englund's to make cranking easier. They work fine. Not the toughest reels but very servicable for this use. I bounce my bait most of the time. Am a wimp some of the time. I also use railroad spikes for weight, on light leader so I can leave it on the bottom rather than crank it up each time. A real wimp solution! (I am old and frail!)

I agree with keni, I like the 345 but it will cost to spool it, I bought another at the show, so Im pretty impressed with them!
