Default South Blue Mountains Spring Bear

Has anyone been sucessful on this hunt ? It is more curiosity than anything. I have bowhunted and rifle hunted in desolation and northside units for 15 yrs and have never seen a bear lots of scat and torn up stumps. My dad has seen 7 over 30 yrs of hunting the above mentioned units all coal black. Do you see the large number of bears on this hunt like you do in the hells canyon area and do you see a large number of color phase bears ?

Seen a few...mostly running down the road. Seen a few nice chocolates, but mostly jet black. Tough spring hunting because it's so thick. I've taken a few fall bears sneaking around during bow/deer seasons. If you want numbers like the Snake, the West Blues tag is the one you want. The Umatilla canyon is lousy with bears, and the open ridges/timber stringers make for good spot and stalk hunting.

I've seen a few bear in the above mentioned units in the past fifteen years - all jet black. There are bear in there but just not very many of them.

I have seen numerous bears in there during hunting season, as has all of my hunting buddies. As for in the spring I have not hunted it then for bears, but have been in the area. We have seen a quite a few off the N. Fork John Day river, just north of Dale. But have mostly been all black. Would check around Bridge Creek Wildlife area if that is in that unit.

In the desolation unit there is a big one up the 1010 road about 8 miles past the cattle guard. He has monster tracks and big piles.
