I have been in or believe I could have been in bow range for roughly half the spring bears I have seen while hunting...so in my experience it would cut your chances at least in half, but would be a great accomplishment.

I always see alot of bears in on the sw hunt but getting in close in those clearcuts where I hunt will be quite the challenge but you never know if you dont try.

I live in Idaho so I am not familiar with the Oregon hunting regs. Are you allowed to bait for bears?

You will have better luck hunting the timbered ridges early in the season...

Often they will feed the roadsides...Get a pair of those felt soles that strap to your boots...Really cuts down on road noise...Find a timbered ridge with sign and slip along in the evening...In May the feed comes on better and it doesn't work as well...I am going to do that in combination with tree stands in April...After that the rifle comes out...

I know where you hunt at and will PM you a ridge close to there that usually has a couple bears feeding it in April...
