Default 130 hp. Honda

Was sitting here daydreaming of summer fun on the big blue and was wondering about adventures to the rock pile etc.. Do any of you have the 130 Honda and do you know approximate mileage you get? I know size of the boat and conditions will vary the amount but I'm just looking for an average. I have a 19' North River. Would appreciate any info.

Puffin has a 130 hp 4 stroke Honda pushing his 21ft Edwing RB. Great motor, great range, very quiet. I am not sure, but I believe he gets around 3mpg. Depending on conditions, and what type of fishing we are doing.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">That might be gph...so cruising at 30 mph you would be realizing something like 10 mpg. I only chime in because I have a very similar boat with a Honda 115(same block as the 130).

I would be surprised if the Honda 130 got that kind of mileage (10), it wouldn't surprise me to see 4 or 5 but not 10. Your North river is lighter and you may get better than that but don't count on much over 5 depending on conditions.

The only way to compare apples to apples is to speak in terms of gallons per hour, at various rpms. Miles per gallon is for cars, not boats on the water with all kinds of variables.

p.s. hey Mark G., nice to see you in Newport.

I have a 20' Hewescraft witha 130 honda (love it!) I get from about 2.2 gph at low planing speed (15 mph or so) to about 8gph at 5000 rpm or about 40 MPH. lots of variables but I used 30-40 gallons of gas per day for tuna trips if I stayed out of WOT which really cut into the fuel supply.

I had a 130 honda on my 18' weldcraft. It would pretty much sip gas at about 5-6 gals per hour on trips to the rockpile. If seas were calm, I would do about 25mph and get there in about an hour. Heavier seas, I would do about 15mph and get there in 1.5 hrs or so and use about the same amount of gas. The typical trip 40-45 miles including trolling took 12-15 gallons.

You should check out the Honda marine website for the performance tests. Honda as well as Yamaha and Suzuki have performance tests shown covering various boat sizes and motors. These are good places to get this type of info.

I know, Mark MC you're right (it was good to visit with you as well). I usually just calculate distance run via GPS divided by amount of fuel to refill. I haven't always looked at total run time, nor do I have a fuel flow meter. Of course I don't have a honda, I have brand "M", and it is a 115hp.
Without all the "tools" it is too much math to figure it out for every condition and rpm range. I was very careful to calculate it on my 1st TUNA! trip, and it has stayed close to that every trip since. 1st trip was 139 miles it burned 27 gallons of fuel in 13 hrs, which meant an average of 2.08 gallons per hour. OR 5.15 miles per gallon

I know when "The GREAT PUFFINS" motor went "down' he waited longer than normal for parts to get it up and running. Better value with the Mercury 4 stroke (Yamaha powerhead).

Just my .02cents

Anybody know the diff between the 130 and 135 Honda? Price seems quite a bit higher on the 135?

Foxer,
It might be that the 135's are uncommon and thus much higher priced
