Quick question: 44 mag/44 rem mag

What the heck's the difference? I've been looking around and I still don't have a clue. I'm more of a rifle/shotgun guy anyhow but I was just wondering if the they're compatible or if it had something to do with the original gun manufacturer?

Same round, there is no difference. When it came out they called it the Rem Mag, just got shortened over the years.
