Default Tillamook Head

Did a dive here awhile back. The visability was the best I have ever seen in Oregon. The current was really strong and we anchored off the S.W. Corner in Eighty feet of water. It was an incredible dive. When we got to the bottom there were Crabs everywhere. I mean they where laying on top of each other sometimes three feet thick. All these Crabs were soft and not one hard one. I suspect this is some sort of natural protection. They can't dig under that sand so they crawl up on the rocks in huge numbers for protection.
I think this was sometime in July.

Wow, that's awesome Abalone! Great pics!

I fish off Tilly Head during the summer so maybe I'll see you out there.

Hey- don't be spearing all the fish down there now. With the deep water bottom fish closure it appears this will be my new bottom reef.
You don't mind if I tie up to your dive boat and jig with 32 oz leadheads and 40/0 hooks do ya?

Honestly ! Didn't see many fish except a few Large Bass. I think the other side would be better.

You can jig all you want. Maybe when the rocks aren't covered with Crab the Lings would be there ?

Nice underwater Pictures! What camera did you use to take them? It must have been good Vis to be able to take a clear picture like these.

We had similar Vis diving in Port Orford and Newport last July. The water temp was around 41 degrees...Brrrrrr. That's about as good as the vis it gets around here.

Thanks for sharing the Pics.

We estimated the Visibility around Sixty feet based on seeing the bottom and looking at a guage.
It may have been more. I don't know what the Camera was, probably a Nikonis V.
Pictures were taken By George Young of Youngs SCUBA.

If there is anyone out there that is looking for a Dive Buddy for the Oregon Coast I am available.
I own a Sixteen Foot Inflatable. I am out there all the time but No one to dive with. I don't dive alone and that's my problem. I guess I am the exception because everytime I go with someone new they don't use the Buddy system. I know a lot of great spots all up and down the coast.
