Default USIA Rockit Wear

I went to USIA this afternoon and picked up an exotherm I and tried on dry suits. Having never handled a dry suit before it was all educational. First off Kujos operation set me back on my heals. WOW   Quite the production facility.

I started with a dry suit that took about 15 minutes to get my carcass in The seals at the ankles and wrist were tight because they hadnt been trimmed yet. The neck was so tight I was getting light headed a few times. I am thinking, I am smoking hot and uncomfortable, how in the heck does anybody fish in one of these units.

Then Kujo comes along and hands me some Rocketwear. Took less than minute to get on, my feet were comfortable, I could move around and was thinking, he has something here that I want.

I will be at the GI Joes in Hayden Meadows ordering some RockitWear before the Halibut season starts. You can call me anything but late for dinner and a fool headed to sea without a my Rockit wear.

It was pleasure talking to you Kujo.

USIA, for a long time, has made one of the best, if not THE best drysuits for diving in cold NW water. My wife, DipSeaDiver (get the dive connection), has had one for a number of years and loves it! It was what she wore for the survival class at the TA meeting.

RockitWear, as I understand it, is a fairly new concept at USIA, built to be lighter, easier to get in and out of, but just as tough and well made. Oh, it's cheaper too. It's just not designed to take you down to 100' with all the bouyancy requirements that a dive suit has built in.

Capt K, take over for me here and correct any mistakes I made about your exceptional product.

Oh, one more thing. IT'S NOT MADE IN CHINA (!) like everything else we buy. It's made in the good old USA - in OREGON no less, by our neighbors and fellow Americans. That counts pretty BIG with me!

Threemuch,

So now you have to buy two sets, eh? Me too. I want ALL the visibility I can get if I'm out there bobbing around waiting for someone to find me.

As for pockets, I think they can customize a set for you with pockets, etc, but I don't know for sure.

I'm going to whistle up the Capt and see if he can answer some of our questions. There's also another thread on RockitWear so maybe our answers are there.

Here's the link to that other thread in case you missed it. Link

I have all kinds of things running through my head. Bye bye waders, why would you use waders when you have a drysuit?!? Some kind of removable vest with pockets, one in camo (easy to find), one in blaze orange for fishing (think road crew type).

Awesome. I will be saving my pennies. Can anyone who has worn one all day chime in? Is this something I won't mind wearing all day long?

Thank you all so much for your support! To clerify a few things.

ROCKITWEAR is a product we have developed for fishing. It is a waterproof non-breathable shell drysuit. It's built with a "fisherman's" comfort in mind, ease of donning and doffing, field repairable (except zipper),and in expensive, and able to compete in price with Anti-Exposure coveralls. They can be customized with any kind of pockets, relief zipper and over 80 color combinations to choose from. Yes they are made exclusively in St. Helens Oregon and we service all componets here at the factory.
If you have any specific questions, please feel free to call me personally and I will help you out 800-247-8070 . You can purchase aROCKITWEAR dry suit directly from our website for $480.00 or directly from G.I. Joes at Hayden Meadows store at Delta Park for $399.00 + I can e-mail you a factory coupon for $20.00 off the G.I.Joes price, so your suit would be $379.00. This is a screamin deal!
As as Bait-O-Eggs found out 1st hand, It's really worth the short drive out to U.S.I.A. to check out the factory tour.

I want to again thank you all for supporting me and my products. Every little bit helps me keep Oregonians employed in OREGON. BUY USA!!!

Keep in mind we build this stuff from scratch, so as far as features, You're only limited by your imagination!!

Kujo-
For $380, I think you got yourself a customer. Can you get a custom one for that price, or do you need to go direct from the factory for the custom?

I think I would want it in camo, and then wear an orange vest or maybe just my bibs for fishing.

Comfort level depends on how much you sweat. I've worn one 16 hours a day for 8 days in a row before and it's only bad when you do alot of hiking. Just bring a cheap poncho, roll down the upper half, tie the sleeves in back and go until you're back in the water.

Kurt,
you still need someone to shoot fish with?

When I got to USIA yesterday, I tried on an extreme edition II, Heavy, bulky, and confining. I am standing there in this suit, thinking there is no way I want to fish in this thing, I would rather just die first.

Kujo, walks by and says, you dont want that, that is for barefoot waterskiiers going 60 mph, you need some rockitwear. He goes and gets one, It comes with the boot foot which made getting your feet in the unit very easy. It was lighter and not as confining. Once you figure out how to burp (technical term ) the suit you can get it to fit nicely. It was baggy at first, I burped it and I felt like I was vacuum packed  , let a little air back in and it was perfect to walk around in.

Cuff protectors to save the wrist seals, thigh and butt reinforcement, non confining, suspenders ..... Kujo knows what we need and has made it.

I for one was impressed with the whole operation.

edit - I am surprised places like FMS and Englunds are not all over carrying these suits. Lots of people complain about GI Joes, but they stepped up to the plate to start with, allowed us an outlet to purchase the suits. I guess those places that are not with the times dont a website yet either.

If I was a hardcore duck hunter, I would be laying out in the mud/water with a rockitwear suit on, rather than owning and having to pack around a blind.

To expand on the Rockitwear experience, what about service? Well, I attended the first coldwater survival class in December and like all of you was so impressed with the product I ordered one. Kim (Capt. Kujo), his assistant/bride, and the GI Joes staff measured me up and took great care in the customizing process. When we were finished they informed me it would be about a month before I would recieve my suit.

Now that may seem like a long time but to get something that fits just you is well worth the wait.

Almost to the day I recieved a message from Kim saying that the suit was done and on the way to GI Joes in Portland and that they would be shipping it to our Medford store. Several days later I recieved another message from Kim asking if I had recieved my suit yet. I called his 800 number to inform him I hadn't and he said I should be hearing from them soon and that if I had any problem with the suit of any kind to make sure I let him know. Sure enough Joe's called soon after.

Trying on the suit I was sure glad I drove up to Portland for the class and a custom fitting and I especially would like to thank Kim for making sure that I recieved after the sale service. I have no doubt that this is one of my best decisions for making the offshore experience a safe one should my best friend 'Murphy' decide to visit. Kudoes to Kujo for all your efforts!

Last year after Kim posted on ifish that he would offer dry suits to any ifish member at a discount I contacted him. He invited me to come over USIA after I got off work some night. I scheduled a day and met him at his house. Over the next three hours we went to USIA and Kim gave me a tour, explained about cold water survival, put me in a dry suit and we ended up with me in the Columbia river testing it out at about 9:30 PM under the headlights of my truck, I was sold. We went back and Kim measured me, gave me some color swatches and told me to call when I was ready to order. Oh yeah he also showed me the drysuit he was finishing up for Jennie. It was real nice, but too much pink for me. A couple of weeks later I ordered my suit so I would have it in time for the halibut opener. When it was done I met Kim to pick it up. I tried it on and it fit great. Kim also took time to give me some maintenance tips and show me how to effect emergency repairs. I have worn my drysuit on about 15 diffrent fishing trips. Not only do you stay warm, but the feeling of safety you have is great. I went fishing alone at Odell in early May and knew that if I accidently fell in I could deal with it. I have not worn my suit on a real hot day, however I have worn it on some days in the low 70's and all I can saw is you get to where you dont mind it. If anyone is even considering one of these suits go check out the factory. You will enjoy it just for the tour. Thanks again Kim. I love my drysuit.

Threemuch,

At least you've been doing something. I only got to go out duck hunting once this season, first time, and shoot one teal. Sounds like a plan to hunt with one of Kujo's suits.

Captain Kujo,

Look forward to seeing some cool photos. Go get 'em.

FD - You can Go directly to GI. Joes and try somethingon for size. They have a full selection on boots and seals for the wrist and neck. Also you can try on suit. If nothing feels right or you think you're an odd size, you can call me up and schedule an appointment to get "fitted".

I plan to get some Rocketware, and wondered about getting the zipper across the chest instead of the shoulders. I’d feel more secure knowing I could get into and out of if by myself. Would this be a custom? Is there a reason for NOT changing the zipper??

I am thinking that "rocketware" should become the official salty dog tuna wear. I look forward to getting Joey's and mine this May. Warm and much safer than I have ever been. CK, I will see you for a fitting then, we are hardly standard sizes! Seriously, I am coming around to this being less of an optinal thing for offshore fishing in the northwest. I will encourage everyone who fishes with me regularly to "invest" in this item. Lets make Kujo wealthy and the rest of us safe. May is not SOOOO far away.

Kim, could you come up with a recipe in which you cook a lamb dish, wrapped in foil, on top of a 250 HP outboard motor? Like "black rocket kebabs"? Of course you'd have to figure out a way to keep the flywheel from chewing up the foil....

There was a cooking show where the guy has a recipe book for cooking meals under the hood of the car. They demonstrated this with an old V-8, driving for about 20 minutes up & down the hills of San Francisco. Ever seen that done?

BAAAAAD!!!!!
Lots of sheep are too dumb to have lambs unassisted

We like to keep them in the barn for a few days after birth to get stronger. We have only lost two lambs in the last 5 years. In '99, '00 and '01 we had around 50 ewes lambing, 8 will be easy.
