Alright story you want story you get! 2008 HUNT

So oct. 4th opening morning i decide to hike down a draw have not hunted in a few years..leave my brother on top and of the draw and do the whoopdie woo side hill thing etc... Well about an hour after i got to to the bottom i was resting and glassing, just saw 2 forked horns bed down although i did hear a shot! That was it so back to camp for lunch

lunch is over afternoon hunt is on! havent seen much activity so i am kinda anxious to get into them.

i had a good feeling about that spot so we went back. spent about an hour watching from the top of the canyon and walked a couple of other litlle draws(just to keep them deer honest). well you would guess it nothing! so me and my uncle go to wear i was when i heard that one shot. sure as sugar there is mature 4 point bedded down for the night(this is 1 hour before sundown). well i get set up on him watch him for about 10 minutes and decide to take him. i rest off, i squeeze off ..boom he jumps up and runs 35 yard across the creek and drops like a sack of potatoes. i thought for sure he good as dead.i knew i was gonna have to pack him out in the dark so i left my rifle at the top i hike down and hes not there, im looking and looking and he stands up 15 yards from me... i have hike out for the 2nd time( 1st time on a.m. hunt). so i shot and finishedhim. then pack out with 125 lbs. in my game bag and the head on my back by myself one trip( which makes 3rd trip)

so i can tell ya never leave your gun anywhere but by your side!!

Good reason to carry a sidearm. Never know when you might need it in the event of a malfuntion of gear or hunter.

Nice Hunt Story Daniel, WELCOME TO ifISH.

How did you find out about ifish? I think it's an ironic place to find a great hunting forum.
