Default Halibut 40 fathom line waypoints

Two things:

(1)The list of waypoints that define the 40 fathom line for the "nearshore" sport halibut fishery. I had this sent to me by calling the phone number in Popeye's post.

I used the Maptech site to find the exact spot of each coordinate. Remember to multiply the decimal (for seconds) by 60 to get actual seconds.

(2) What this looks like on the chart for Stonewall Bank. You have to stay inside the line made by connecting the waypoints, except of course during the all-depth days.

Mark, thanks for posting this.

At the halibut meeting last fall in Newport, it was explained that the Rockpile was specifically designated as offlimits for rockfish... thus they drew the 40 fathom line to exclude it. They explained that ODFW opted to exclude the Pile so that there would be rockfishing allowed inside the line.

During the superbowl, did someone say "have a Bud" or was it "halibut"?

Thanks Mark.

This is going to be a little interesting this year. I plan on spending a quit a bit of time on this line. I am curious as to how the depth really relate. As many probably have found out there can be a lot of variation.

We have enough line and wt. to run downriggers effectively at these depths. At least it is a quicker way to explore new halibut areas.

Well......this might be kinda interesting. While I was on the boat Sat. I fired up the Nav Gear & loandbehold that line is approx. 1.1nm inside of Harrison's Ridge  I have actually fished that area during all depth. FYI it is much better later on, but I'll bet if'n ya fish it enough early on, you'll proly score some nice BFB
