Default Mounting a washdown pump

I'm going to mount a wash down pump in my new boat. My question is can I mount the pump sideways and will it still work? or does the motor have to be facing upward. Also can I put a "t" on the out put side so I can have a connection in the front and back of the boat. Any input would great. Thanks

Not sure what kind of pump you will be using, but all the pumps I know of like Flo Jet and Shur Flo you can mount in any situation. You will have no problem mounting a 'T' before or aft. I use a 'T' fitting before the pump that uses a ball valve to direct the incoming flow from an onboard fresh water bladder and a thru hull fitting. I use the fresh water bladder for when I'm in salt water.

Good Luck!

I've heard it's best to mount pump down, motor up. Less chance of seal leakage and a burned out electric motor.

If your pump has a replaceable rubber impeller be sure to mount it so you can easily replace...........with that said if it does have a rubber impeller need to consider some kind of sea strainer as any kind of junk sucked in can cause impeller to "burn"
