Default Auto Pilots for a boat with an outboard

I am thinking about getting an autopilot. Anybody have any suggestions as to a good one that will work on a boat with an outboard.

I want to use it for both fog navagation and fishing.

Thanks

TS

Do a web search for "Nautamatic". It seems like every time I post a link I step on somebody's shoes. Sorry. They have two different versons one is around 2k and the other about 3k. There is an Ifisher who works for them and offers deals to Ifishers every now and then. I don't know his name though.

Tight lines.

Click on the link at the bottom of this page, they are an Ifish sponser. The TR1 is for kicker motors, the Gladiator is for bigger ones up to 250 hp.

I run a Raymarine Sport Pilot - slips over the steering shaft. It has a servo drive, rudder feedback not really needed. To be effective, however, you need to have it interfaced to your GPS as the compass is a gimbal mount, non-damped. Rough water will cause the compass to spin. It does work well, and the cost is around $700.

TS. I've got a raymarine ST5000. My boat is a 23 Boston Whaler. The outboard is a Yamaha 250. I installed it myself and it was a ***** . The unit was about $1,500. I would have a dealer install and tune it up if I had it to do again.I can not stress this enough. This unit ties with my chartplotter as well as GPS.I have the furuno nav net system and it interfaces with it.These are sized to match your hydraulic ram on your outboard. I got mine at www.consumersmarine.com but again I would get it at a dealer and have them put it in. unless you are very handy with electronis , Hydraulics, wiring, can fit in super tiny spaces, and are comfortable working on your head. This system ties into your hydraulic steering system. Its a good system once its all hooked up. Mark

Go talk to the guys at Roger's Marine on Marine drive. It's in-between 33rd and the 42nd street boat ramp. You will learn a lot just visiting them.

I have a Sport Pilot with the rudder feedback that I'm not using. It worked great on a Honda 90 in a 20 ft Hewescraft. Fairly easy to install, but it DOES need to talk with the GPS. What's your boat and motor? e-mail me if you're interested in mine and maybe we can work something out. I'm not out to soak anyone...
