Port Orford Fishing Vessel Grounding
At 03:52 this morning the 78-foot fishing vessel “Pacific Future” grounded on a sandy beach near Hwy 101 at MP 319 in Port Orphir (13 miles south of Port Orford, 7 miles north of the Rogue River).

The facts as we know them are:

The vessel contains 7000 gallons of diesel.
There has been no release yet.
The vents have been plugged in hopes of preventing a release.
The vessel is 133 tons and has a metal hull.
The crew refuses to leave the vessel.
Lights are still on on-board the vessel indicating there is still some power available.
Weather conditions are typical – with a 3-4 foot surf.
High tide is estimated to be around 11:30 this morning and is to be one of the highest tides of the year.
Plans are to try to refloat the vessel at 12:00 with the outgoing high tide and the assistance of two other fishing vessels – the Pacific Prospector and the Bold Contender. A USCG helicopter will assist in relaying tow lines if needed.
A tug is en-route but is not expected to arrive until 15:00.

It'll be interesting to find out why this happened. You'd think someone would notice when the depthfinder started clipping under 40' when you're a 78' boat. Very Very interesting.
