Default Lay-out Blinds

This fall my family got permission to hunt 5 or 6 fields in between albany and lacomb. I know i will have to scout out the birds for a few days and then make my set up. I have a dekes but the blind is the part i am stumped on. I dont have enough money for a layout blind so could i just set up along the edge in a well made blind? Or has anyone thought about building there own layout blind?

You can get camo burlap and stubble it up, and then lay on the ground with this over you. But a layout blind will be MUCH more cofortable. I love hunting out of a layout. I would do it more, but some of the guys I hunt with really have problems with it physically. You could use a rollup blind at the edge, but that is only going to work for you in really specific situations.

Starting out i did both, while it did work it deffinatly will be hard to get the birds to finish, or in some cases even come in, but when we just started we tried to things which both worked with some success. 1st we used 4 stakes, made a rectangle and placed strings to make a blind, then placed grass matts to make it look like a giant bush, well we got a couple. If you cant buy a blind the next best thing would probably be getting a plastic type sled and putting camo netting or sheeting over you. If one of your fields happens to have a deep enough erigation canal or tall enough grass, just taking a knee can work too...good luck!

On the cheap you could get some burlap and stuble it with zip ties. Then get a big piece of heavy duty cardboard to lay on with the burlap over you. I killed a few geese this way when I was young. Or... look on craigslist for a cheap used layout, or get one of the smaller layouts. I bought a smaller final approach backpack type layout at spertsmans this summer for $70.
