Waterfowling Went Out With A BLING! +Pictures+
Knowing I couldn't hunt on Sunday I put it in my mind that Friday was the last day of my duck season, and man what a final hunt it was!
I was just talking this last week about my goals/hopes for this season and I made and blew away what I hoped to accomplish except getting a band.
Well wouldn't you know it on my very last hunt my final goal came true on a nice fat Alberta Mallard.
I took a guy out to show him the ropes of a certain Public hunting area and my Dad and a co-worker of his came and joined us after they put in a half day of work.
We ended the day with 12 ducks.
My first banded duck of the season, second ever.
And my first "stormy" Wigeon!
Greenhead was banded in Alberta 7 1/2 years ago. So its at least 8 years old.!!!!
It was actually amazing I even got the band. A pair of mallard came flying over us at about 50 yards. My dads co-worker told me to shoot it (kind of jokingly) So I shouldered my gun, and, trying to prove a point led it by about 9 feet to show that it was too high. Well I pulled the trigger and the bird fell from the sky with not as much as a flap on the way down. He thuded in the grass way behind us. We all were amazed and started luaughing. Me, being pumped about the shot I just made went back to pick up my prize greenhead. As I lifted the wing my eye's were drawn to a certin body part (foot)!!!!

Sweet Job Andrew, way to close the season with the jewel, and the nice Wigeon. 
I got a nice Wigeon too friday, but not as stormy as yours.

You da man Andrew! Great pics. I think that I would have that banded greenhead mounted. He looks in perfect condition and perfect plummage. What a great way to end the season. Put that in your memory bank. Bill

Nice job, Andrew! You ended the year with a bang and collected a little "bling" with it!
Nice pics, and it was nice to see that your dad got to end the season with you ...... what a terrific hunt it must have been.
You did well to get that "secret spot" on a "certain Public hunting area"!!! 
I heard the "fellahs at the shack" had a little trouble that morning, sad to hear that.

Thanks so much you all!
The band I got 2 years ago was banded not even a mile from where I shot it and the duck was not even a year old, so this one was very special and unexpected!!
The wigeon is in the freezer and ready to go to the taxi!

There sure are a lot of birds that come from the Peace River area. Cool Bird w/ a lot of miles on that engine.
