return from Ixtapa,Zihue!!
Well what a place to fish! Reminded me of the Hammond boat launch at the peak of bouy 10 season was just a hoot to watch in the morning as the pangas picked up for their people. The fishing really is as world class as it gets. We fished three days hard on a panga called the Posideon with Lenny as our skipper. Lenny spoke excellent english which is a god send down there. Anyway the fishing is as hot as it gets with the best boatdown there flying nine flags one day and the next day the most flags we saw was eight. Most of the pangas always had 2 to 5 fish a day landed. We were right their with the rest of them our best day was 4 fish to the boat the other two days we had three. That of course is not counting all the other hookups and fish lost and fished raised up that did not bite what a blast. The third day out we hooked a blue marlin that was around 200# what a tussel that was on our 30# test my neck has been killing me ever since, all and all I was totally impressed by the facility's and professionalism shown by all the people we meet down there. I f their was one thing I was glad we did it was take are own rods and reels as most of the gear we saw on the boats was way oversized and not necessary. We used TDL 15 shimano reels on BFC 66H lamiglass rods and they were plenty big enough for horseing our fish around as it was, all of the sailfish are in the 70 to 100# pound range and all of our hookups except one came on our gear verses the captains gear don't know factually if the lighter gear mad a difference or not but we usually had 4 or even 5 baits out and they always seemed to grab the lighter stuff first even hooked one on a 12 weight fly rod but of course broke that one off and was just a fire drill believe me my buddy was done after about 1/2 hour of messing with it, sure makes me respect the guys that land them on those light rods! Anyway all ready dreaming about going down again next year!!!!PEACE!
