Default Depoe Bay Fuel Situation ...

Good News for the folks that fish out of Depoe Bay ...

As you know, last fall the fuel dock shut down for good. The reason given was
that Jim couldn't make enough money off the fuel to make the dock pay for itself.

So anyhow, the Harbor Commission has been working overtime this winter to make sure
that all the boats in the harbor would have fuel come the fishing season. I just got
off the phone with Frank Buttons who is not only the commercial fish buyer in port
but also one of our esteemed commissioners. He relayed to me that the funding for
a new fuel dock has been approved. He also led me to believe that the Engineering work
has been completed and that the City of Depoe Bay is now "fast tracking" the issue.

Fuel should be available at what is presently the pump out dock by early (?) spring
this year. Yehaw!! Kudos to tht Harbor Commission and the City of Depoe Bay
for their quick action on a resolution to this crisis!!

Gas at the pump out dock huh? Did they say anything about that "fuel" being recycled?

Thats great news!!!! I was hopingg they would come up with something before summer, now if we could just get them to open up 7 days a week, I would be a real happy camper.

Thanks for the info

Marty,

I think the GAS part of it is still a question. Because of Oregons' no-pump-law
the gas part of the fuel dock will have to be manned for gas service. For the
boats that run diesel there is no such restriction so it won't be an issue. I'm
willing to bet that by the time prime salmon and tuna fishing are here they will
have figured out how to keep the fuel dock open more of the time for the gas guzzlers.

The local Depoe Bay paper, the Beacon, is reporting today that the funding for this project has been approved by the Oregon Marine Board. The article goes on to say that the facility will be installed in the SW corner of the dock facility and it is hoped to be completed by the summer fishing season.

Good news for those who like to sneak in and out of the hole!
