Default Ouch- Fuel Prices this Summer?

Ok- so I thought last summer was bad at 1.30-1.50 per gallon for diesel on the water (no Tax). Previous year was 85 cents (truck- hi sulf) to 1.20.

I saw a news broadcast about the recent jumps in fuel prices and the cause. That was the good news I guess.

The bad news was that this guy at least was forecasting no drop, and with the normal summer increase that we will see gas prices at $3.00 a gallon this summer.
Of course this was national news and Oregon is always higher than average. Looks like it could be $300 dollar Tuna trips  this summer if that holds. Ouch!
Man...where's the good news at?

How about covered moorage prices this spring in Pdx $450/m 1st and last.
That's if I ever get my boat out of hock.

Mel, what's diesel gonna be?
I may be able to let you know in a month if I can get the tanker truck down.

Is the Astoria gas dock closed till they move accross the jaws? I saw lots of pile drivers there last week.

Mel, I would be glad to help with fuel. When do I sign up for another Tuna trip? Same for you Tom. As long as the stock market keeps going up my retirement is enjoyable.
I'll keep a look out for warm water.

Mel, that just means you'll have to find a way to take more ifishers this summer to help pay the fuel bill.

Lemme know if you need crew to help out with all those lines

That is assuming I don't get a better offer

Dang Mel, you just put me further into my winter depression mode. Here I've got Cindy Lou all ready to go and now fuel prices may keep me with in the 12 mile range. Hey, you and Tom can tow me out then I can troll and then you can tow me back in. Works for me.

Hey Big Tule- can't believe you still have your Tuna cherry. Better start my virgin list for the summer. i.d. Painter and Big Tule both get to wear the pink rod belt, who else?

Hey Bernie- that a good idea.
We'll just hang a big treble off the back of Cindy Lou and see if we can find jaws on the way out!

Hey Mel - It could be worser - we could be buying fuel from Halliburton. Think how much that would be when you figure the special hosing people on the west coast get.

See Mel, you go an open your chops and suddenly all the virgins pop out like Dolly Parton stuffed in a 36 B. More than ever folks, it's not required but a nice gesture if you salt the bait jar with a couple of Andrew Jackson photos to those folks that offer to take you on a drive for Tuna. It's a long ways out there and it does burn a lot of fuel to get there and back on the bigger boats. Not only do these fine folks get ya all set up with fuel but they have bait, gear, ice and best of all the know how on how to get ya into fish.

Of course the most costly thing of all is high bid to get Keta on your ship as deck hand. Usually it's the promise of a tuna or three.

I saw the teaser for this story, but did not stay up for the broadcast. What was the reason given for rising prices?

Thanks,

Looks like you all are going to have to pack more skinny guys in to hone that fuel bill down.

Oh well, I hope the tuna don't think this is going to make them any safer this year.

Mel, I think you should check into the Wilcox and Flegel fuel dock for pricing. Thats where the big boys fuel and I heard the are alot cheaper then anyone else down here. Maybe a tad bit longer run to get fuel, maybe the price will be worth it though.

To think I was complaining on paying a 1.70 a gallon for my Tuna trips this year.

So Tom if your his Huckle Berry is he a Daisy if he does?

I posted about a sail assist.
Can you rig a sail on your boat?
It's not too hard and works well on many boats.
Making a mast and sail is surprisingly inexpensive.
This will also be the year to utilize http://www.rbaw.org/fueltax.shtml, Don't you think?

Powerboat hulls, especially planning hulls, don't make good sailboats.

Right most powerboat hulls are not good sailboat hulls but with a little modification many can be good enough to fish out of.

Fuel prices aren't going up, The Dollar is going down.

Canada and Mexico will be more expensive this year also.
