Re: i need help with this
Hey man Savage, Remington, Ruger. A Gun is a Gun. The main thing is how does it feel in your hands. All 3 brands will shoot the same for you. You need to think about what area will you be Hunting. Easter Oregon areas with Long shots I would say a 7 mag. Mid - Western Oregon is not near as open. I myself have a 7 mag for when I hunt over east and I have a lever action 44 mag rifle for the more brushy areas. The main thing to remember is its the ammo, the scope, and the person shooting that makes the difference not gun brand.

Re: i need help with this
If you ae going to go with a magnum caliber. Go to a 300 win it is better than a 7 mag all across the the board. you make think it may be to much for him but I recieved my 300 win mag for my 13th bairthday and once he learns to shoot it he will be fine I was.

Re: i need help with this
savage combo from bi-mart. search over! You'll even have some money left over to upgrade to a nicer scope like a leupold, nikon, or burris.

Re: i need help with this
Just bought a 30 06 a couple weeks ago. My first gun also. I ended up with the savage. found the best price at Bi-mart. Got the rifle with the factory scope. I will replace that soon for $319. The same combo was on sale at big 5 for $399.
I didn't get the accu trigger. watch for sales but from what I saw Bi Mart was the cheapest by far.

IMO, take $300 of it and go find a nice used Rem700, take the other $200 and find a used 3-9x40mm Leupold.
Then shoot, shoot and shoot some more.
Then when your older, have outgrown it and since picked up a .300mag of some sort, have a custom match barrel in .280Rem installed and spend your 2nd Life w/ it and fall in love all over again.
$$$$ spent on a used Rem700 is money well spent.

Re: i need help with this
Keep on eye on the classified adds there will be guns coming around. Another option but a few dollars more check out Tika if looks don't matter this is supposed to be a very accurate gun for the money.

Re: i need help with this
If you can go to a 300 win mag and I love winchester model 70s. You will want more gun as you hunting career furthers. So if you can swing it now you might as well get it now and then you will be set for a long time.
