Default CA Rockfish ID chart

I got an email from Bob Franko of the Coastside Fishing Club in HMB. California has imposed some complicated rockfish regulations that take a Philly lawyer to figure out what you can keep and have to throw back. (Mostly dead. Great conservation, the non-retention rule. Brings bycatch to sport fishing.)

But the Coastside Fishing Club has taken the proactive approach and made up a rockfish regulation guide to ID rockfish while you are angling. Check it out.

Maybe we could interest chumking to make one up for us.

Nice chart...I'm going to print it out and laminate it, so I can have it in the boat.

Thanks,

Do these restrictions apply to Oregon waters too?

Pitch... no, those are CA - specific.

We have a 4 month rockfishing closure outside of 40 fathoms from June to Sept. In addition, there are restrictions around yelloweye and canary during the open season, and also during halibut days.

As far as shallow water goes, there were some changes to the minimum length on a few species, cabezon & greenling I think. But no nearshore closures at this time.

This is just from memory; we'll find a link to the specifics.
