I found it !!!!
A month or so ago I told you about some tagging of Albacore and the results had not been posted on the net yet. I just found them.
Towards the bottom of the page there are two links (Fig.1 and Fig.2) for the data.
Very interesting stuff showing time of day depths, water temps, etc..

Re: I found it !!!!
From now on I'm fishing glow lures from 7pm to 7am !!!!
That second Fig. 2 is really interesting!
The streaming video on the tagging procedure is pretty cool too. Perhaps covering the eyes would make the brain spiking a little easier?

Re: I found it !!!!
As always - thanks for the post. I appreciate the technical information you seem to have a knack of running down.

Re: I found it !!!!
Rod,
Nice link.
Very interesting, and seems to match with all the other info I've heard over the years from the tuna pro's. It will be interesting to see if the trend holds true when there are a few more tags returned.
Thanks,
Chum King

Looks like they run pretty deep during the day.

Re: I found it !!!!
This is a wealth of information you have found, Rod. It looks like the first light bite is the ticket.
Notice how much body temperature varies with activity and depth. Are the wild swings in depth during the day the sleeping behavior we've heard about?
They swim up and then glide down and sleep while doing it?

Re: I found it !!!!
I'm going to see if I can coordinate a moon phase calendar to see if there are any patterns that way too.

Re: I found it !!!!
On my slow boat we have been going out around 2:00 AM and have found each time that the earliest light bite is wild and then slows down after an hour. Usually within the first 5 to 10 minutes of trolling we have our first fish on and it is pretty crazy during the first hour. As long as the temperature is good I put out lines at a 7.5 knot clip and troll until we get bit and then slow down to 6.5 knots.
Not to say we don't have other hot bites but this has been so consistent that we are pumped to get out there before it is light. We are often out there fishing before others have crossed the bar. Of course, you still beat us back in. Let's do an overnight this year. Get some evening fishing in and then the first light fishing.
