Default Crabbing Tide Question

Thinking about heading to Tilamook bay next weekend for crabbing. Tide is outgoing most of day. I've always thought the incoming was best, but does anyone have any thoughts on the outgoing? Is it not worth trying, is outgoing just a little worse than incoming? Any other tips? For what its worth, there's not a larrge height difference between high and low next weekend.
Thanks in advance.

Crabs like salt water, and do not like fresh water. They will bury themselves in the sand and not actively feed. On the outgoing, there will be a much greater volumne of fresh water dumping into the bay from the rivers, so I'd say the outgoing will not give you very good success in catching many. You might try calling Marie at tillamook bait, she can let you know for sure, and they have great crab bait.
I'd opt to fish the rivers instead. Crabbing on an outgoing is not going to yiled much for you.
Good luck

I would sleep in and do an afternoon trip so that you can crab the incoming. We always do much better on the incoming. Incoming tides=good crabbing. Incoming ties+darkness=fantastic crabbing. Don't be afraid to go crabbing at night. The wife and I have spend several nights on the water on T-Bay.

5:55 am High 7.4
1:35 pm Low 1.4
7:11 pm High 5.2
12:26 am Low 4.2

6' swing on the outgoing. I would start dropping the pots around noon so that you are crabbing through low slack.

I've always seemed to do best on the incoming, with the best results just before high tide. We get some earlier in the tide, but most just before it reaches high.

Dito Love2fish; A couple hours before and through high slack is normally the best. Low slack can be decent also.
