Default Thinking about reloading

I have some of the equipment, but none of the know how. As ammo prices rise, I want to start doing my own. I know there a lots of books and such on the topic, but I'm more of a hands on kinda guy. Is there anyone here that would care to take some time in showing me the ropes or maybe let me hang out while you reload?

Thanks

Locate the book "The ABC'sof Reloading." That will get you started. Get a name brand reload manual.
Check out You Tube, there are many videos on there showing hands on stuff. You can also check out the numerous reloading sites online.

Good luck, its addicting.

We're just getting into it too. The ABC's book is pretty good. One thing the ABC book said was to start working up loads based on what the bullet manufacturers recommend, so we started with the Nosler Book #6 and will add Hornaday and Sierra books if we start using their bullets.

Since we were planning on shooting .223 we jumped with both feet and went for the Dillon XL650 progressive press with pretty much all the bells and whistles. I picked up a bench at Lowe's that we'll start putting together this weekend. We've saved up a couple thousand rounds of .223, and I'm thinking we'll start loading for the big guns (7mm and 300 Weatherby), but use a single stage press for that bigger stuff.

We're hoping to have some quality father-son and father-daughter time while reloading together as well as shooting together more with the ammo being less expensive via reloading.

Yes, Dean Grennell's "ABC's of Reloading" should be the starting point for everyone.

Rob, This year I promise we'll do the Reloading Seminar again.
What are you mainly wanting to reload? ... pistol, rifle or both?
Pistol reloading is easy and requires little attention to details....always a great place to start.
Rifle reloading on the other hand require a lot more attention to details.
IMO, the differance between ho-hum accuarcy and great accuracy is in the details.
The ABC's of reloading covers the basics, but not much about the little details that really make the differance.

If you like, I'll send you the handout from our last seminar. It contains the details....a suppliment to Dean's book.
Just pop me an email, not a PM. (too big for a PM)

Yea, you can come over some day/evening and we'll put together some ammo. We'll start the lesson with prepping and sorting brass, die setup, to actual assembly of components custom fit to your gun.

I live in Beaverton.

Cool, thanks. I hope to do a few sessions with different folks to learn as much as I can.

I live a little far away...but wanted to congratulate you on your decision to start reloading. Like fly tying does for fishing, reloading just expands the hunting experience. One of the things that happened with me when I began to reload is that I started spending lots more time at the range, which made me a better shot
