Default Xmas Sailfish and Kingfish (Pics)

Wow, I don't even know where to start. My family went on a cruise for Christmas to Cozumel, Cancun, Belize, and Roatan. Our cruise ship docked in Cozumel for its first stop.

My father, my brother, and I decided to charter a boat and go out on a 4-hour fishing trip for the afternoon. Here they are on the way out.

We ended up shooting over to the banks of Cancun and fished along that shoreline in about 500 feet of water. (I didn't realize it was that deep!) After a couple hours, BAMMM! The drag on my reel started singing....and singing....and singing
Pedro, the captain, yells, FISH ON! ...I jump in the chair, grab the rod. About 100 yards out, a fish flies out of the water, jumps 2-3 times. Pedro yells, SAILFISH, SAILFISH, SAILFISH!!!
My heart starts pumping faster than ever! After 200-300 yards of line-taking and 30 mins later, we backed the boat towards it. I finally got it to the boat, and we brought it on board.
We measured it to be almost 8 feet long, and around 80 pounds! Pedro said that was the first sailfish they had caught in 4 MONTHS! So I figure it was a gift. By far, my biggest fish ever!...(so far!)
I set up for one last picture to be framed.

This picture is getting blown up and put on my wall for future memories! It was good to have my dad in the picture as well! After a couple quick pictures, we released the fish to continue it's adventures at sea.

Turns out the four hour trip was coming to a close so we began reeling up our lines. The last line was on a downrigger, and was getting pulled up, when WHAMM! another fish on! My brother, Mark, grabs the rod and fights this beautiful 40 lb Kingfish to the boat!

After a more-than-satisfying day out on the water, we headed back to the cruise ship, and set sail for Belize.

All in all, was a GREAT trip, and wouldn't change it for the world! Great memories and great companionship! (not to mention, my brother proposed to his girlfriend that night, and they are now engaged, so congrats to them!)

Fish on!!, can't wait to fish down there again!

Big Dave~

Just found the name of the Charters. They are called "Sand Dollar Sports" Ask for Pedro as your captain. The price was $119/person....it was a 4-hour trip.
..and NO..not a "three hour tour!"

...Not to mention they have 'all-you-can-drink' Corona on board....WITH LIME!

good luck!!
